Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
GTB Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 I've noticed when you create a thread, another member can quote your post without having to write a reply. And I cannot find any settings in the admin cp were you can for example require so many characters have to be typed in a reply. Is there an option to make replies to posts that are quoted, have to have a reply (so many characters entered). So they cannot just quote the previous post, and post it without entering any text in the reply themselves
Strange_Will Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 They do this on vBulletin where they check against everything not in a . Probably easily gotten around, but an interesting feature.
GTB Posted July 12, 2007 Posted July 12, 2007 They do this on vBulletin where they check against everything not in a. Probably easily gotten around, but an interesting feature.Yes, I own both vB and IPB. So I'm well aware of this feature in vBulletin. As it stops people from making replies without posting any text when they quote a post. This why I asked, because I just presumed IPB would have a similar feature also, but I cannot find anything in the admin cp to require a person to enter a certain amount of characters in his reply before his post is accepted. I have a HIDE hack installed that requires a reply to see the hidden content displayed, and this clever little fellow has figured out to see the hidden content, all he has to do is quote the post and submit it, without any reply himself included in it. :o
bfarber Posted July 13, 2007 Posted July 13, 2007 Then use the moderator tools to suspend the member's posting ability for the time being. We can consider adding something like this in a future release (no, it's not available presently) however in the mean time it sounds like an issue that moderators should deal with.
Cybertimber2009 Posted July 14, 2007 Posted July 14, 2007 What if someone wanted to create emphasis within the quote? Then use the moderator tools to 'suspend' the member's posting ability for the time being. We can consider adding something like this in a future release (no, it's not available presently) however in the mean time it sounds like an issue that moderators should deal with.If the system didn't check within quotes as Will points out, then you can't do that anymore, though thats only a small inconvience.I only point that out because someone could misread a post and I'll just quote myself and bold what they missed.
