Posted August 7, 200519 yr Erm this was in 2.0.4, so like when you got a PM it displayed it as so on the main forum view in a frame! Today i got a PM, and the My Assistant popped up displaying it? is their a way to switch back to the old style. as i dont like it this way :( e.g. through admin CP or UCP
August 7, 200519 yr I love the new way, and no I don't believe it's possible to change it back to the old way unless you modify the code and the skin.
August 8, 200519 yr Hmm my test board (that I and I alone use) haven't tested that yet... although I agree with the first BHX... I don't like popups at all and have them disabled as far as I can... thru IE and other external popup blockers. If the MyAssistant is still a popup window, then it's not going to work for me and I'll be quite upset. I prefer the inline view of PM's... giving you the notice and the first sentence or two of the PM. That was the best way IMHO.
August 8, 200519 yr The new way (at least for me) is a virtual pop up window. Meaning that pop-up blockers *shouldn't* stop them. It takes a little getting used to, but I like the MyAssistant method better. If you have unread PM's, you can click the "MyAssistant" and cycle through them, even if you got the notice(pop up) a few pages earlier. The old style, if you missed it, then you missed it and that's it.
August 8, 200519 yr then maybe members should be given the choice of how they wich to be informed, and also have the old style updated so that it shows UNTIL it has been read...
August 9, 200519 yr then maybe members should be given the choice of how they wich to be informed, and also have the old style updated so that it shows UNTIL it has been read... +1 :)
August 9, 200519 yr I'm using FireFox and it didn't block the MyAssistant from popping up and saying i had a new message.
August 9, 200519 yr I think the members should be glad to get notified at all :-" In all seriousness, the new way is better. Makes the older way seem chaotic.
August 9, 200519 yr Pop-up blockers won't block the MyAssistant from popping up... Cause technically, they aren't pop-ups...
August 9, 200519 yr That's why I call them virtual Pop-ups. Although from the source I read, it's possible for it to try to make a real pop-up, at least if the virtual one wouldn't work. But then I could have misread it so I dunno.
August 10, 200519 yr either ways the admin should be able to choose between BOTH! but the old style needs to display the box until the PM has been read, not just the first time the user browses the index.
