Self-Hosted - Upgrading from Old Version
Thanks for this! I am making some progress and am able to get the /admin/upgrade loading after replacing the files with the latest and changing the server PHP version to 8.0. But the error preventing me from proceeding now is: The files are all in the "cms" application, so I am not sure if that is now deprecated. I tried to remove the /cms directory altogether (since is is not present in the latest version) but the errors still show up. Is there a file where included applications are specified and that I could remove the cms application? Self-Hosted - Upgrading from Old Version
Thank you for the link! It is all green. Relating to MySQL requirements, the server has the following which is fine for my other Invision community: Server version: 10.6.18-MariaDB-cll-lve - MariaDB Server

Thank you so much for the suggestion! Unfortunately, that also displays blank white pages.

Self-Hosted - Upgrading from Old Version
SORRY - I did not realize there was a self-hosted sub forum. I couldn't find a way to delete this so please feel free to move it. Hello! I am helping to upgrade an Invision Community from IPS Community Suite v4.1.16.1. I am aware it is very out of date. The software will allow the upgrade up to 4.7.17 - however, when trying to proceed with the upgrade, it says it requires PHP 8.0.0. Unfortunately, when changing the PHP version on the server to 8.0 or higher, pages are just white/blank and so the site is unusable. I can get it up to PHP 7.4 and the community will continue to work. Is there any way to upgrade to a certain point where both PHP 7.4 and PHP 8.0 are supported? (In hopes that I can upgrade to the latest possible IPS version on PHP 7.4, then change the server to PHP 8.0+ and continue upgrading IPS) Thank you for your help!

The installer uses PHP sessions to store data, however PHP sessions are currently not working correc
Not sure if you removed the username yourself prior to posting, but thought that might be something to check if your database requires a username and password to access. I compared your PHP values to mine and the only different one to note is session.save_path. Yours was /tmp and mine was /opt/alt/php80/var/lib/php/session - but this probably varies by host. Sorry I don't have anything else to add about the PHP sessions as it may be a server issue. Is this the same server you have been using for a while or have you migrated recently?

Upgrade Error from 4.7.7 to 4.7.9
In case it helps anyone, it is this section in the .htaccess file that I commented out. This was added by cPanel MultiPHP INI Editor. It was still present even though we migrated to PHP 8 a while ago - and the last few upgrades worked flawlessly.

Upgrade Error from 4.7.7 to 4.7.9
That was exactly it. Thank you so much for pointing me in the right place! cPanel had added those PHP variables to the .htaccess file. I commented those out and we are good to go! The web host did not make any changes in my case and I have closed my support ticket with them. Thanks for your quick responses @Randy Calvert and @ThunderBlue - much appreciated! The summary of my learning is to check the .htaccess file for PHP variables when moving from a cPanel server to DirectAdmin.

Great suggestion... session.save_path Local Value: /var/cpanel/php/sessions/ea-php74 Master Value: /opt/alt/php80/var/lib/php/session

Upgrade Error from 4.7.7 to 4.7.9
No problem, I greatly appreciate your help and suggestion! I guess the AdminCP I had was still logged in but when trying in another browser it gives the following message, so hopefully the web host will be able to fix it on their end. "You have started an upgrade A new version has been uploaded and the upgrade process has been started. You must complete the upgrade before you will be able to access the AdminCP. " Thank you!

Thanks for this! I checked and in my conf_global.php that full path does not exist and it says: 'php_ext' => 'php',

Upgrade Error from 4.7.7 to 4.7.9
Thanks for your response. The other odd thing I noticed and have a question about is the path: /var/cpanel/php/sessions/ea-php74 We have moved to PHP 8 (well before the host migration - and it was working fine) and it is no longer on a cPanel server, so I am wondering if this string is stored within the Invision software, or on the web host side. I'll report back once I hear back from the web host if we get this resolved.

Upgrade Error from 4.7.7 to 4.7.9
We recently moved web hosts and everything was generally running smoothly. Went to upgrade the Invision Community software from version 4.7.7 to 4.7.9, and encountered the following error: Upgrade Error: We were unable to start a PHP session. You will need to contact your host to adjust your PHP configuration before you can continue. The error reported was: session_start(): Failed to read session data: files (path: /var/cpanel/php/sessions/ea-php74) Initially I thought it was due to DNS not propagating, so had waited several days before attempting it again. I have opened a support ticket with the web host as previous posts suggest there may be a sessions permission issue with the web host, however, is there a way to make the community accessible again? I had tried to clear the System Caches and restart the installation, but that did not help. Thank you!

Trouble after Upgrading to 4.6.12
Last night, I upgraded my community (https://www.cptdb.ca) to 4.6.12 and this is the first time encountering a problem. I believe it actually did two version upgrades. It seems that now, anything that is interactive within the browser does not work. I have tried both Chrome and Firefox. For example, the instant reply field does not do anything when clicked: I cannot even enter in an announcement to let people know (because the editor doesn't load) Within the Admin CP, there are weird artifacts on the Themes page: Even within the AdminCP, typing anything in the "Search for settings, members, etc" search bar at the top does not automatically return results. I thought it might have been the custom theme incompatibility, but even when I use the IPS Default theme which is not modified, I am still having this issue. Do you have any ideas? Thank you!
