Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted March 11Mar 11 Hi,I've spent most of the day trying to figure out why a chat room addon will not work for one group.I was finishing off setting it up this morning, but one usergroup (the last group I added) would not work. After a while, I found that the chat room JS was not loading. After checking everything I could think of (including changing browser in case there was some weird caching in incognito mode), I tried creating new groups - they would not work either. When I edit the JS in the theme footer, it apparently does update. When I return to it, it appears as it should be in the ACP. In the end, I tried adding some comments within JS tags and they did not appear.I then tried copying a theme - it created multiple copies. I deleted them and again tried copying the theme I've been using for testing, and it again created multiple copies. I kept one and deleted the others. The copy of my test theme copied and correctly applied the edited script. However, I cannot update the header/footer in this theme either. So, I have a potential work around by copying a theme after each edit, but I'll instead wait for this to be fixed. The process of setting up the chat room is complicated enough (one group at a time) without having to add workarounds.I presume this is some kind of server caching problem.I dearly hope this is fixed when I return to this in the morning.Thanks.
March 11Mar 11 Community Expert Sorry, I may be getting lost in your issue here. To summarize, you copied a theme and it gave you multiple duplicates?
March 11Mar 11 Author Yeah, I was frustrated and venting just a little - I've lost a whole day trying to resolve this.It appears that editing the header and footer in the theme does not update the cache. (It took me an age to realise this was the cause of the problem). Additionally, when copying a theme, it generates multiple copies (and times out). Presumably, these are related issues.
March 11Mar 11 Community Expert Solution Was this when you were logged in as guest? As a Guest has cache which is cached by our CDN and will wait the timing for that to resolve. However, if you were logged in as a user, you would want to clear ACP -> Support -> Clear System Caches

However, if you were logged in as a user, you would want to clear ACP -> Support -> Clear System CachesUrgh. That appears to work. Though, I am puzzled by why I did not need to do that for the first 11 usergroups I set up.Thanks, @Jim M.
