Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted January 22Jan 22 Hi,A small number of members have recently started receiving browser error messages, sometimes when just sitting at a page doing other things, not actually doing anything such as clicking, visiting threads etc. We’ve had no updates to the forum software or changes to our server for several months, but these have started popping up. It finally happened to me today, so now I can provide some details, and I have a suspicion that it’s happening when a new notification pops up. It seems to affect Firefox users a lot (we’ve had about 20 people asking for support, but you can guarantee there are many more that either don’t bother, don’t use the PM system, or haven’t noticed. It is also affecting other browser users, although not as much, but whether that’s relevant I have no idea.I’ve attached a bunch of screen shots of the various views of the error message to see if it will help diagnose it.TIA Mike @ Britmodeller
January 22Jan 22 You mention you havent changed anything software side. Have you changed anything server side?
January 22Jan 22 Author 1 hour ago, Marc said:Have you changed anything server side? Not a thing has changed since your last forum software update, which was a couple of months ago. The server has been running now for months unchanged as far as we know, although I did restart the Apache web server a couple of hours ago to see if that was involved. That popped back up in less than a second, and it’s still happening. We generally have to approve any server-side updates, and there haven’t been any. We’re also running through Cloudflare due to previous hacking attempts (you can’t legislate against spiteful idiots), but I’d imagine many forums are using it for similar reasons, so our issue would be happening elsewhere too.I’d be happy to reboot the server to test any hypothesis.Mike. February 1Feb 1 We have been experiencing the same issue since last week.We are on Nginx.Something maybe related to a latest version of some browsers regarding the json handling? Looks like my user is on iphone but I don't know.
February 2Feb 2 Can confirm some of my users reported it too, although I haven't encountered it myself yet. We are not using Nginx, just apache behind Cloudflare. Edited February 2Feb 2 by Eleeist
February 3Feb 3 Im not able to replicate this one at all on my end. It would be worth disabling cloudflare temporarily to see if thats causing you any problems
