Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
ANONYMOUSKOREAN Posted January 7 Posted January 7 Not sure if this is the correct board to post this on, apologies if it is not. I'm interested in features that support real-time interactions while being self-hosted. One of the key aspects I'm looking for is live updates for things like posts, comments, and notifications. Will Invision 5 include support for real-time features like this out of the box self hosted, or would it require additional development? Another point for me is profile customization. For our community we want something that feels as dynamic and personal as the MySpace-era profiles, users can modify themselves through layouts, themes, and embedded content. Likely full page backgrounds as opposed to the current banner. I know this level of customization isn't available out of the box, but my question is—would I be allowed to edit the code to achieve this? How easy is it to make such changes without breaking terms of service or encountering compatibility issues? Thank you.

The real-time features are only available on our Cloud as they interact with our services there and are not just PHP/Javascript. We do have polling to be as close to real time as that limited technology will allow. This will let users know that they have notifications or a new post on the topic has been made but not things like "Someone is typing" or instant appearing of replied posts while viewing. 1 hour ago, ANONYMOUSKOREAN said: Another point for me is profile customization. It likely is possible to make a custom application to do so but this would be outside our scope of support. ANONYMOUSKOREAN 1
