Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
wmarcy Posted March 20, 2022 Posted March 20, 2022 Uploaded an MP4 file into a message, on saving it, there is an audio play bar displayed, but no video is shown. Any fix, or am I doing something fundamentally wrong?
Marc Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 That sounds likely to be an issue with your browser. If you uploa done in our test area here, are you getting the same issue?
wmarcy Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 I just uploaded a short MP4 file into the test post area, and it presented the same, audio, but no video. Checking it with chrome / brave / firefox and safari. Youtube video embeds work fine.
Marc Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 This appears to be an issue with the file you are uploading. If you take a look at your test message, you will see I responded with another mp4 with no issue
wmarcy Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 Is it the MP4 Format itself? Files are created by a Google Pixel 5, no post processing done to them. They play fine locally and remotely when uploaded to youtube. (Appreciate the help in narrowing it down Marc!)
Marc Posted March 21, 2022 Posted March 21, 2022 It seems its that specific video. What I uploaded was also mp4
wmarcy Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 Well, tried with 15 videos, albeit, all MP4 shot on a pixel 5, downloaded from Google Photos. I am going to try a different video types to see if that has anything to do with it. Strange that a wordpress domain on that server has no problems playing the exact same files that are showing up as audio only on my IPBoard install.
wmarcy Posted March 21, 2022 Author Posted March 21, 2022 Marc, Can you recommend a video plugin that would solve this problem? I just need to upload a video (In multiple but well regarded formats), and display it on the site in the post it was uploaded to. I prefer to keep the video source files on my own server (Negating Youtube and the like) as I prefer to have control over my own content. Any help would be appreciated.
Marc Posted March 22, 2022 Posted March 22, 2022 You would need to take a look through the marketplace. Please could you zip one of those files? I can then take a look to see what may be the issue for you.
wmarcy Posted March 22, 2022 Author Posted March 22, 2022 Sure can, here you go, and thanks! PXL_20220218_210832893.mp4.zip
Solution Marc Posted March 22, 2022 Solution Posted March 22, 2022 Its using HVEC encoding, which is what is causing the problem. It does not show on many browsers, other than video. In fact it wont even show in windows without downloading an extention to do so
wmarcy Posted March 22, 2022 Author Posted March 22, 2022 So is there a way to internally convert any type file to one that will display properly in a message thread?
