Documentation for Commerce store license-key generation?

Hi,

We have the Commerce/store plugin for our IPS forum site, and when creating a new product there are options for generating license keys. Where can I find documentation for how to use this and how to code the actual software we're selling to only be installable if the customer enters the license key (serial number) that IPS has generated for them upon purchase?
