Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
dacho Posted July 18, 2017 Posted July 18, 2017 Hello We use 3.2.2 and currently use IP Board "login name" and "password" for a membership area on another website. (ie. they can login to the website using their IP Board Login name and current password) Can anyone tell me ---- if we upgrade to 4, will that membership area still work on the other website as it currently is, or will some code adjustments be required? If adjustments would be required, any specifics on what would need to be adjusted code-wise would be most helpful. Thank you very much
bfarber Posted July 19, 2017 Posted July 19, 2017 When you upgrade, you can choose whether to retain usernames or display names on the site. You will likely want to ensure you retain usernames. The way passwords are hashed has changed in 4.0, however our software can handle verifying the password is valid whether it has come from 3.x or 4.x. I am not clear how you currently validate the login on your external service so I can't say for certain if it will still work fine after upgrading, however if you are using the Invision Community software PHP framework APIs to do this work, then yes the same passwords will work following th upgrade (although the underlying PHP code has changed so you will probably need to update that code).

bfarber Posted July 20, 2017 Posted July 20, 2017 I don't know what code you used previously, but these documents should help you get started:
dacho Posted July 20, 2017 Author Posted July 20, 2017 Thank you very much for that, will look into it.
