Shut down just forums

What would be a best practice

1. of shutting off the forums to new posts.

2. Leaving them open and searchable

3. Using just Pages with comments on articles

You may just remove the right to post in forums for all Usergroups... Forums will stay online and searchable... No new posts can be made if you don't allow it.
 

When setup the rights for IP.Pages like you wish (who is able to write Articles, Comments....) and you are done....
