Colonel_mortis Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 The editor is still the number one complaint from my members, with some even suggesting that we switch to some other software just to get a more usable editor. A few suggestions have been made by them that they feel, and I agree, would make the editor more user friendly: On smaller screens, rather than removing buttons entirely, just move them to an overflow menu (or have an overflow menu plugin that the admin can move buttons to at certain resolutions, if doing it automatically is impractical) so that, if they want, a user can add a quote or list to their post when using it on mobile, or whatever. Allow some editing of the metadata of a quote, so a user can create a custom quote if they want. I'm thinking something like a pencil icon on the citation bar in the editor that, when clicked, allows you to edit the name and date of the quote. If edited, it should not send notifications to the member, because that could potentially be open to abuse, but it would still be useful to add a custom name and/or date, for example if you want to quote something from a different site, but still make it look pretty. This was possible using the editor in 3.4. Allow you to add easily lines before a quote, for example by putting the caret at the start of the quote and single/double pressing enter. Though this would make it harder to add a new line at the inside-start of the quote, that is a far less common use case than trying to add a line before the start of the quote (which is possible though feels hacky in Firefox, and not possible at all in Chrome). There is no whitespace inserted before quotes inserted by pressing the quote button (and nor should there be, but it should be possible to add it). It might be a good idea to add a help button on the editor, that will show things like double enter to break out of/split a quote, and the keyboard shortcuts, because a number of people have said that those features are unintuitive when I have explained what they are.
Boomer12 Posted August 3, 2016 Posted August 3, 2016 Maybe just stack the toolbar items in the editor into multiple lines if the adminsitrator wants? Dropdown menu doesn't feel natural for this. 3 hours ago, Colonel_mortis said: Allow some editing of the metadata of a quote, so a user can create a custom quote if they want.
