I have hacked Pages -> templates -> Category articles -> index to show article feed in my front page like this http://hoitajat.net/

Is there way to create block like that from database feed? Currently when you create new block, only database feed you can create is this http://hoitajat.net/index2.php/

 

Yes, 100% agree. Though I am not sure what hacking was required to get that front page. You can do that directly from pages. 

The issue for me is when you want that front page to be two or three columns, but you want the article to display on a single column. 

So the block with the Thumbnail and teaser for databases is essential in my opinion.

What hacking did you do? I don't think you need to hack anything unless you were just being colloquial 

That sidebar etc is manual code. That page is database front page, Database settings -> DAtabase index -> Show categories -> Show records like articles
