Format Output Checkbox Set

a checkbox set that has several items checked displays them in a return separated order

item A
item B
item C

but that doesn't work in a lot of areas it makes thing un necessarily long (especially if you have a dozen items ) 

I want to make the the format to be comma separated: 

item A, item B, item C
