Poor interaction design when editing theme or plugin settings

The process of editing theme or plugin settings is slow and counter intuitive in my opinion. How it currently works:

1. Go to Customziation page.

2. Click edit theme.

3. Edit a setting & click save.

4. The settings save and then the browser redirects back to customization page.

Now if I want to tweak another setting I have to restart that process from step 2. This not only applies from an end-user perspective but also from a development perspective. I've found that it's horribly tedious when building & testing settings in a theme. The process I suggest:

1. Go to Customization page

2. Click edit theme.

3. Edit a setting & click save.

4. Save the settings and keep the settings dialog on screen and on the last opened tab.
