Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted December 11, 200618 yr I really like how I can modify permissions for Adminstrators. What they can do and cannot do in my ACP. That is a really nice feature! My only real complaint about it is this. During my testing, I created a Super Moderator and wanted the said account to have access to the ACP for topic moderation, log viewing, basically everything a true Moderator should be able to view. After configuring the restrictions on the account, I logged into it to view it. Sure enough the account can only browse and modify the sections I allowed it to. However it was able to 'see' everything I didn't want it to.So my feature request is this. When I limit what a user can see in the ACP, I want to truely 'limit' them. Only the functions I want them to use should they be able to see. Access or not, I don't want them to see that they exist.Hide everything in the ACP that the account is not specifically allowed to use. :shifty:
December 11, 200618 yr Yeh vbulletin has the moderator panel, hopefully they will add that to ip board 2.3 :D
December 11, 200618 yr Yeh vbulletin has the moderator panel, hopefully they will add that to ip board 2.3 :DI prefer the inline moderation myself.
December 11, 200618 yr Yeh vbulletin has the moderator panel, hopefully they will add that to ip board 2.3 :DThey removed it in 2.0But yes, I aggree, after all - members can't see moderator functions can they? Why should moderators be able to see admin functions?
December 11, 200618 yr Yeh vbulletin has the moderator panel, hopefully they will add that to ip board 2.3 :DFor the record, Jelsoft plans to REMOVE the Moderator Panel.
December 11, 200618 yr ....Why. >_<... because the ModCP is counter-productive? Inline moderation is the better option, as you have access to all the tools necessary in the place most relevant to them. Inline administration is a bad idea, because everything is relevant to some admin action, but inline moderation is the best moderation.
December 11, 200618 yr Can we keep this on-topic, please? Back to my suggestion. If I allow someone access to the AdminCP but disallow them from using certain features, why should they be able to see them if they can't access them? For example, I didn't allow the account access to the Help & Support section of the AdminCP but the tab still existed for them. Users cannot see Moderator controls. Why can those with access to the AdminCP see controls they are not allowed to use?+1 Suggestion: When restricting accounts from accessing certain features within the AdminCP, remove the areas that the account does not have access to or permission to use. Leave only the controls that are allowed specifically for that user. Also, this has been suggested before around here but I'll bring it up a third... fourth time. Add the ability to customize AdminCP permissions for a Group instead of individual users. :P
December 11, 200618 yr I would love to see this feature. It would be nice to have the option to either allow them to see blocked off areas, or have the option to completely hide off the blocked areas from view.
December 11, 200618 yr +5 on that. I haven't used my license in a while due to the domain dropping, however I had hoped that this was already a feature. Wholeheartedly agree with the suggestion.
December 12, 200618 yr I am surprised that none of the IP team have replied to this yet. I feel left out.
December 13, 200618 yr This would be VERY NICE if this was implemented. I'd love to be able to let my moderators access certain things in the admin cp without making them look through all the irrelevant parts.
December 14, 200618 yr Yeah being able to incorporate groups into this would also be a plus. I believe the group aspect of this was discussed in another topic! Why has none of the IPS staff said this is a good/bad idea? Would be nice to know if they've even seen it.
December 14, 200618 yr The IPS staff tend to reply to say why a feature suggestion will not work, I find that if nobody replies, it's a good thing ;)
December 14, 200618 yr I was also hoping for the ability to 'hide' the restricted areas, not just restrict access.I very much hope that this feature is added in the next update, or we at least hear from the staff on this in some way regarding the matter.
December 15, 200618 yr +1 Suggestion: When restricting accounts from accessing certain features within the AdminCP, remove the areas that the account does not have access to or permission to use. Leave only the controls that are allowed specifically for that user. Also, this has been suggested before around here but I'll bring it up a third... fourth time. Add the ability to customize AdminCP permissions for a Group instead of individual users. :P I believe that there needs to be both ACP Restrictions by Group and ability to hide ACP Areas that should be unaccessible for User/Group, so my vote for both of these. :)
