Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt November 11, 2024
bfarber Posted February 16, 2007 Posted February 16, 2007 I think removing the feature caused more confusion to the users that knew what they were doing. I spent 2 hours trying to figure out why you couldn't turn a category into a forum anymore. How many people are going to want to have to run over to phpmyadmin and edit the database manually to be able to do this. I'm sorry but there needs to be a advanced option and that should of been though about before the functionality changed, not putting it off until the next release. Then why didn't you suggest this during the approximately 3-6 months IPB 2.2 was available as a beta. :)Nobody else did either - so apparently we're not the only ones that didn't think about this.
Vitaly Posted February 19, 2007 Posted February 19, 2007 Then why didn't you suggest this during the approximately 3-6 months IPB 2.2 was available as a beta. :) Nobody else did either - so apparently we're not the only ones that didn't think about this. :thumbsup:That's not honest  . Not everyone has possibility to test betas deeply, to figure out such changes. The really intensive check starts when forum goes to production site. I wait for 2.2.2. Of cause, bugs and notes will br reported, but not for beta.Regards
scottydawg Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I did beta test a but. But much of my focus was on updating the skin to match the site at release. I don't have the time or energy to extensively test your product. I also wasn't thinking about trying to change a category into a forum at the time. (btw, my apologies for digging up old topics.)And I just want to state for a record that invision is still the one of the best boards around. But fuctionality was removed nd now every time a forum need moved into a nested archive from root, I have to do it since my admins do not have SQL access. If I remember correctly even iB had this fuctionality. Also, im not trying to start anything here, I just dont want to be surprised each release to find something missing that I might only use once or twice a month has been removed.
FrostedPopTart Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 I agree, this is rather confusing (and actually, irritating) to me since I merged a few of my old databases together and I am fairly certain that I have some posts and topics hidden in the categories that I can no longer access due to this bad change. I certainly hope that it is reverted. :( And that I / we don't have to wait for IPB 3.0 for the change to take place.
Sinistra Sensei Posted February 22, 2007 Posted February 22, 2007 I wouldn't see a harm in adding atleast like 3 optionsAllow postin inthis forumdo post increse in this fourm is this forum active. but I can see where the IPS staff is coming from. vB also has that problem and with novice users of both boards its hard to understand it for a noob.
sweetL Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 so.... what do i change in the database to make this work?i tried messing around, but not had any joy.
bfarber Posted April 3, 2007 Posted April 3, 2007 You'll be happy to hear this has already been done for the next release. There will be a switch to category/switch to forum button.
