Happy Hump Day, team! Shout-out to @nodle for being a big fan of these posts. 👏 In today's community management hump day topic, I wanted to chat about one of the most powerful ways you can inspire kindness throughout your community. Kindness is an essential ingredient to a successful community. 😌 I know it's a little cheesy, but it's important. Some times you may experience negative players attempting to derail your day because, well... misery loves company. In my experience, one of the most profound ways to fight toxicity in an online community is by... not fighting at all. Instead, it’s by offering kindness to those who need it the most. That’s done through u…

Happy Hump Day, team! Last week, I shared a preview of some of the live community updates we're releasing. Our own community is already integrated with some of them, including who's typing a response, who's viewing a topic and sentiment analysis. Read more about them here: There's another new feature that I want to touch on: video streaming. Pretty soon, we'll be offering the ability to upload and then stream video content straight to your Invision Community-powered community. This is a great opportunity to offer video content directly onto your community and dissuade members from leaving to check things out on other streaming platforms like YouTube…

Happy Hump Day, team. Offering opportunities for engagement is one of the cornerstones of the Invision Community platform. I'm curious to know how you incentivize your members to engage? Ways to create engagement: Engagement happens when you can successfully inspire emotion in others. Creating content that invokes a reaction / action (hopefully positive) is one major way to contribute towards engagement. Some communities' purpose is to offer information, educate and sell, but if they can also incorporate avenues for their audience to engage it will help strengthen the brand's presence and foster trust. Invision Community tactics to create e…

Happy Hump Day, team. I'm curious to know if you're utilizing the subscriptions feature in your community. 🤔 Or, at the very least, have you thought about it? Subscriptions feel exclusive and elevates the brand imo. I personally use a subscription component in my community. It offers members additional access, as well as an ad free experience, but it's not something I've leaned into as much as I'd like to. However, I love the potential of it and want to chat with you about it. It might be a good time to strategize using subscriptions as businesses figure out how to navigate through the topsy-turvy markets and unpredictability nature of the global econom…

If you had a magic wand to create a new feature or functionality within Invision Community, what would it be? I'm especially interested in your thoughts for features or improvements to the discussion engine (aka forums), workflows around that such as moderation, reporting content and members, issuing warnings, etc. Here's a list of updates and fixes from our developers made in the last 7 days:

Happy Hump Day, team! Hope you had a great New Year. I've been thinking a lot about our Clubs feature (yeah, I'm cool like that 🤗). I get asked a lot of questions about Clubs when I'm chatting with prospective clients interested in starting a community with us. I feel like they're a seriously underutilized feature. I was curious to see if any of you are currently using Clubs, and what you like about them / areas of improvement. A Club... Creates new pathways for members to venture into and contribute. Offers new opportunities for a variety of content. Are self-managed by its Club leader, allowing for moderators to focus their attention el…

Happy Hump Day. Creating a community has so many awesome benefits to your business, however there are certainly times where the going gets tough. Every community leader runs into pain points during their community building journey; it's totally normal (and even an expected part of the process). A few of these pain points could include: Low engagement Lack of content Trouble finding good moderators Bringing an idea or concept to life I know for me in my own community, one of my biggest hurdles is feeling like there's not enough time in the day (or year 😝) to accomplish all the things I want to. I think that's a good thing, but still..…

Happy Hump Day, team! And RIP to Internet Explorer. While we put the finishing touches on our upcoming release, 4.7, I wanted to touch base with you and talk about your community's theme. A beautifully branded theme can take your community to the next level in my opinion. An original logo, smart color scheme and easy-to-read fonts (no Bionic Reading today, folks!) can make all the difference. We wouldn't want to use #EEEEEE when #1abc9c is the better fit. Do you use light or dark mode or both? Did you incorporate a sans or sans serif font? Are the buttons easy to see? All of these touches add up. I'd love for you to share screen shots or links to…

Happy Hump Day, team! I wanted to pick your brain about how you onboard members into your community (if at all). We have a new Alerts System feature available in our upcoming release, 4.7, which can create one opportunity to welcome your new members with a greeting. There are a bunch of great ways to introduce a member to your community. Some other ideas include: Sending a welcome PM Guiding new members with a warm message using a block Have a welcome forum Create a getting started / welcome topic Include an onboarding team to answer any potential questions Create a welcome video Award new members…

Happy Hump Day, team!We are inching towards releasing our latest stable version, 4.7. It includes a ton of awesome new features for both self-hosted clients as well as those on our standard plans (where we host). You'll be seeing a lot of content discussing the new release, along with its features in the near future, but until then sink your teeth into these: By the way... did you read all that pretty quickly? I recently stumbled upon Bionic Reading and wanted your thoughts on whether communities would benefit from integrating a tool like this. Bionic Reading is described as "a new method facilitating the reading process by g…

Hi all! I wanted to let you know that we've just released 4.7.0 Beta 1 and I wanted to run though some of the highlights on the release notes page. We recently released a cool little feature to enable you to consolidate a forum and all sub-forums into a single list of topics, much like the global fluid view mode. We took onboard some feedback and made it a little more efficient and also reversed the checkboxes so they are ticked by default as some reached out to let us know it was confusing loading a page with content and unchecked boxes. We also added the new URL parameters into the default robots.txt to avoid Google and friends adding faceted pages into…

Happy Hump Day! 🌈 In case you missed it, we've officially rolled out 4.7.0 Beta 5. It includes our new Alerts System (which has been a big hit)! Read more about the Alerts System at the blog post below 👇 There have been some pretty great ideas regarding how to use the Alerts System in the comments on that blog post. 👆 I'd love to take the opportunity to chat with you and hear your ideas on ways we could better improve this for all. What are some features / ideas you have to better the Alerts System? @Randy Calvert mentioned these in the comments on the blog post: @Dean_ mentioned this: By t…

Happy Hump Day, team! Back by popular demand. 😎 I want to put a few of our forthcoming live community features onto your radar. These new live features are designed to encourage members to further engage with the community. Check these out: Who’s Typing We just implemented a live Who’s Typing feature into our own community. If you're quick, you’ll see a member typing a reply in real time when going to submit your own reply at the form located near the bottom of the topic. Who’s Viewing We implemented a live Who's Viewing feature into topics on our community as well. This may sound familiar to you - we already create…

Happy Hump Day, team! There's a new feature available to all included in 4.7 Beta 1: we added solved & unsolved filters to activity streams. 🎉 What does this mean? You can now sort through and stay up-to-date on any solved/unsolved content items by setting up a custom activity stream. Why is this important? This is particularly useful for community support forums where clients and members are searching for solutions to questions that have already been answered. Or, perhaps a developer is in search of questions or problems that are unsolved. Here is a view of an activity stream showing all solved content. You can create a mo…

Happy Hump Day, team! Wanted to share something extra special with you. We launched an Invision Community swag store! We'll periodically add new items here, including exclusive designs. For now, we started with items repping our logo. 😎 Our team had first dibs and, not going to lie, we're all looking pretty darn spiffy. People still say spiffy, right? Anyway... we'd be honored if you wanted to rock Invision Community offline. If not, totally cool, too! Our shop does ship internationally by the way. 😊 Check out all the items by clicking the link: shop.invisioncommunity.com You're going to look so good! While I've go…

Happy Hump Day! Our forum app is a fan fav. There are so many advantages to running a forum versus using social media exclusively (more on that to come). What would you say is your favorite existing feature of the forum app? Me personally? I love the fluid view mode. 😍 It allows me to quickly see what topics I want to consume first, then dive in deeper if I want more. Super handy! Curious to know which one's your fav? If you have any idea to enhance the forums app with a new feature, please feel free to drop it in @Matt's topic. And while I've got you, check out this lengthly list of updates and fixes from the team …

Happy Hump Day, team! We just released IPS Community Suite 4.6.12.1 - which includes a couple of key things I want to put on your radar JIC. Fluid view There's a new fluid view inside child forums which is pretty nifty 🤓. Essentially, you can have a fluid view per forum or category so you can stream the forum's topics with any child forum's topics in a single view. @Matt wrote a blog post about it with all the details👇! Keeping communities safe We fixed a security issue our internal teams identified. It is specific to those that use the REST API and also uses a CDN to cache page output. 😮💨 You can check out all the latest and gr…

Hey team, happy Hump Day! Can you believe we're in the final days of March? Where is the time going 😳. I am going to use this opportunity to shamelessly promote a blog post I penned about why forums stand the test of time. If anyone can attest to this, it's you all. 🥲 Please feel free to go ahead and give the blog post a read and comment; it'd be greatly appreciated (currently there's 0 replies 😿). And speaking of blog posts, stay tuned for a really special one out soon! It's an interview with the founders of Invision Community. 😊 I also want to highlight @Matt's topic about features. Super fun to read everyones' responses. If you haven't alr…

Hey team, Happy Hump Day! I just recently penned a blog entry on our new reporting and metrics added into 4.6.8 (out now btw 🎉). It got me thinking about another means to collect data directly from your members is our polls feature! I think the poll system in topics is an underrated gem of our platform. It's engaging, easy to participate with and provides real results. You can even share the poll for others to partake in (and its results) across any page of your community using the poll block inside the Block Manager. It's a pretty nifty feature we don't talk about enough! Would love for you to participate in this poll and also hear from you! A…

Happy Hump Day! We officially launched 4.6.11 Beta 1 into the world. 🎉 It's a maintenance release, but still worth your undivided attention! I can't reveal much yet, but we have some very exciting features on the way. 🤫 Feel free to speculate in the comments 🙃 Here's a look at 4.6.11 Beta 1's release notes: As always, here are a list of updates and fixes done in the last week. - Fixed the duplicate stream subscription emails. - Fixed an issue where a customer may not be able to pay for a custom product. - Added a new 'block' feature to blocked words when posting. It will prompt the author to revise their content to remove t…

Happy Hump Day, team! During my community building journey, I've seen a lot of fellow community managers feel frustrated that their communities aren't getting enough engagement. Wondering... what are some of the best ways to engage with your community to generate activity? Based on my own experience, here are a few things I personally lean into: Being visible As your community’s leader, it’s important to be accessible to your members. Post frequently and know Create content that invokes an emotional response It's one thing to make content, it's another to create valuable content. Value is quantified by whether it produces some …

Happy Hump Day, team. I saw a lot of really great topics in the Feature Suggestions forum recently. It's the inspo behind today's Hump Day post. If you could dream up one single feature, what would it be? The challenge here is to think of and share one (I know a bunch probably come to mind 😆), but if you had to single one out what is it? Inquiring minds would like to know. 🤓 Sound off in the comments! --- As always, here is a list of updates and fixes since last week's Hump Day post: - Fixed a missing language string in the related content widget. - Fixed an issue where banned and spammer member filter options were showing for bulk mai…

Happy Hump Day, team! To celebrate Invision Community's 20th anniversary, we're working on a series of content to reflect on our time online. Did you notice the revised logo up top? 👀 Seen @Matt's 20th anniversary blog post yet? I wanted to put our next anniversary item on your radar. It's a throwback IP.Board using version 3.1.4. We actually wanted to see if we could get the first version ever online, but the requirements are so outdated that we couldn't 😂 . This is still a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Feel free to register an account and comment. Poke around a few of the topics (there's some throwback content in there!). Does this bring …

Happy Hump Day, team! Just wanted to put it on your radar that version 4.6.10 Beta 1 is officially out. 🎉 There's a few notable changes (among the many) that I want to give a special mention: Support for IndexNow, a new way to inform search engines of new content. IndexNow is an easy way for websites owners to instantly inform search engines about latest content changes on their website. You can read more about it here. New Webhook trigger points. Webhooks allow other services and applications to stay in sync with your community data or to perform an action after a specific event occurs in your community. Read more about them here…
