IP.Nexus Dev Update: Integration with IP.Downloads

I had previously blogged about the API in IP.Nexus allowing other applications to process payments using IP.Nexus. We have implemented this in IP.Downloads to bring paid file support.

You can specify which groups can add paid files, and which groups (for example the admin group) can download paid files without paying.

You can also specify how much commission to take from sales and what to give to the user who submitted the file when it is purchased.

A member who has permission will be able to specify how much to charge for a file when submitting it.

When viewing a paid file, instead of the "Download File" button, users will see a purchase button.

When clicking this button, the user will be taken to the payment screen and payment will be taken. If payment is successful, the user will be taken straight back to the download page where they will now see the normal "Download File" button.

The commission to be given to the member who submitted the file will be applied in the form of account credit, which, if allowed, he can request be paid out. This will be discussed in a future blog entry.

As you can see, the IP.Nexus & IP.Downloads integration is very simple to set up and use but allows IP.Downloads to be used by those selling digital files without the need for a complete billing system.

How can this be use for Artist and commissioners? Example Person A would like to commission Artist B, how would this system help them to pay for one and then the artist uploads the file to Person A to get it?

We have thought about that. What you're asking for is a sort of IPS version of the Apple App Store. It's a neat idea but obviously comes with issues too that would need to be addressed (handling of money and all that) but yes something we have considered and will continue to look into I'm sure.

This supports standard paypal out of the box which sends the customer to the paypal payment screen. Paypal (website) payment pro adds the ability to handle all of the transactions on the native site. Does ip.commerce support paypal website payment pro? this is the service they charge $30/mo

There's been numerous talks about an app-store styled system here on the resource site, I know it's something a lot of people have been wanting since the IP.Nexus days, and there have been so many talks 'behind closed doors' about it, it's certainly being considered but as Charles said it does come with a few issues.

As to the blog entry, good work Mark, sounding good ;)

Their business management system/CMS that was put on hold almost 2 years ago. (Although I think it's safe to say "cancelled" now with the release of IP.Content and anouncement of IP.Commerce)

There are a bunch of old announcements and company blog entries about it if you want to read more about what it was.

I really hope there is good documentation for developers as far as this and IPB 3.1 also. I have been working on an app which has some similarities, but no built in payment processor and also it's just something that a bit of a different audience would want. But it would be very nice for me to incorporate the payment processing from this since I don't know enough to add my own anyway. Although I'm not so sure anyone would buy both... but my point is that it would be nice tos ee more dev information for all of IPS' products as some things have still been a bit lacking for even IPB 3.0 as I try to quickly understand how to utilize certain aspects of that.

"When clicking this button, the user will be taken to the payment screen and payment will be taken."

It would be great if a screen shot of that payment processing page could be put up. Standard paypal page where people can type in their personal and credit card information?

We're going to blog about the checkout process early next week.
