Change function of forum icons?

When viewing a list of forums in my community, forums with unread posts have bold icons as shown below.

If I click on the bold icon all posts in the forum are marked as read. If I click on the forum name (General) I'm taken to that forum where I can view all the unread posts. 

I want to be taken to the forum where I can view all the unread posts when I click on the bold icon. 

Where and how can I make changes to the code to make the bold icon take me to the forum to view unread posts instead of marking all the posts in the forum read? Any help is appreciated.
