Blog grid view - limit to number of posts

I'm testing out version 4.3 and I have Blog set as my default homepage. Is there a way to limit the number of posts that it shows? Currently 23 posts on the main page and this is impacting loading time.

Alternatively, can I use pages and pull blogs using the grid view?
