More power for moderators?

Here's a small suggestion, users in the Moderators group can currently edit simple fields of other users' profiles. Now, what if a spammer registers and wrecks havoc, and only a moderator is present at the time and no admins around? I think that Moderators should be allowed to move other users' from the Members/Validating group, into the Banned group. And only move Members to Banned, to prevent moderators from giving themselves (or other people) more power than they currently have.

That way, moderators can ban members but still not be able to access the Admin CP.

What do you think?

From what I've seen in the warn panel for 3.0, moderators can supposedly suspend members posting ability or moderate preview all of their posts or even un-approve the members topics and posts. Given this, I don't think moderators really have the need to be able to move users to other groups if that situation arises but if it does come to it, in the screenshot, there is a ban/suspend option available.

look for the easyban mod by calypso... it's what i use... i got it for the spammer reason.

although spambots are fairly easy to stop... all you have to do is place a question in profile fields that only a human can answer... 2+2 is fine.
