Any downtime is frustrating and lives long in the memory but in context it's a tiny amount. Our uptime so far this year is 99.9947%.

We have a lot of internal alerts that trigger when any anomalies are detected. We also have multiple clusters so it's unlikely that everything is down at one time. This site is used as a beta testing area also, which can have consequences now and again that won't affect any other cloud site.

I do not want to hijack this thread about this topic but It's not silly once you have first-hand experience of the Cloud version.

We have one of the largest Invision sites out there and have been on the Cloud version for 7+ months.

It is not overpriced. Once you factor in all the costs associated with self hosting, it will be cheaper on the Cloud plan . If you are self hosted you need to add : Server costs, bandwidth , Cloudflare, server maintenance (Webmaster), etc ..
Unless you have a site with very little traffic that can run on a ultra cheap server, the Cloud solution will be cheaper.

It is not slow. Speed is about the same for users with IPS 5. for us, the ACP is a bit slower, yes, but we had a $25K beast server. For users, I do not see the difference.

It is not 'unreliable'. They use the AWS platform, it very stable. Sure, a sporadic slow down can happen, but no more than on a self hosted situations,

Great Support. Invision has great tech support. Since they have people in both the UK and the US, they cover several time zones. I have received answers at 3am (for us).

for the record, I do not work for Invision, I am just a regular customer like you. But I have been very impressed by version 5 so far, even though we are sometimes frustrated by small missing parts and small bugs. These small issues are greatly overshadowed by the overall quality of v5.

Thanks for your thoughts, although I didn't comment on Support.

I was going to write in my original post that the cost is of course relative.

For me, when I last checked and I had 3 (originally 4) IPS communities running off my 1 VPS, it was always less expensive. I wasn't with an el cheapo hosting company either, but nothing like your monolith server!

In terms of reliability, IPS are now making a more public point that this site is used to test and patch on the fly, so yes it will appear to have more downtime. Fair enough, but its an visceral advertisment for their product. This site is my only experience with Cloud hosted. Yesterday it took over half a minute to do a simple search of the Bug Tracker. Things like that are frustrating and can stick in the back of your mind (like Matt said), but I've also experienced this site down for hours at a time, fortunately not often.

That's the point though, we don't all have massive communities. I pay minimal amount to Cloudflare for domains, server bandwidth is free and I can run several communities and Wordpress installs on my little 8GB VPS. I wouldn't miss paying extra for CPanel with Cloud hosted though!

Cloud isn't just a VPS though. It's a lot of services and micro services tied together with custom glue.

Anyway:

5.0.10 Beta 2 is on its way to Cloud®

This is just a little update that fixes the following:

  • Unable to use the Page Editor on some Pages build pages

  • Unable to edit club forums

The CSS issue is still open, the JS template issue should solved now in 5.0.10 Beta 1.

Hi, did you mean Beta 2? It is still broken in Beta 1. Many thanks.

Is that a 2K adhesive glue or just a standard single-part glue?

The cheapest Cloud package seems to have come down a lot in price, its slightly cheaper than my VPS but only provides 1 community and not all of the apps and I would still need hosting for my websites. I wonder why the huge increase in cost to get the full Pages app? Shouldn't the basic Cloud package have all the standard Invision Community apps?

Glad i could point out that that was not working. Fast Fix!

Did you btw fix this also in the Admin CP? As the error came up there aswell.
Aswell for editing Blogs/Events.

Yes, the same bug affected several areas

Same as any other business. If you purchase more, you get more.

Maybe due to that?

Im hoping Beta 3 pours beers for me

Im hoping Beta 3 pours beers for me

Thanks for the suggestion, we’ll add it to our list! 🤝

I really do hope there will be something like a monthly subscription to access the cloud exclusive features for a self-hosted client like me. Quests looks amazing, but from the Team package at 239$/ a month it's expensive for a forum that I keep online just for old times sakes.

Updating classic to beta 2.

However when features on classic are not rolled out, i would not expect them to be in the changes list. This would suggest i get them on my classic install aswell.

We have only one set of release notes for the platform itself. This has always been that way, but thank you for the feedback

It is not. All included (I’ve recently calculated the costs), self hosted is way cheaper, because I can run other services I need on the same server.

This is something we can go back and forth on all day. The actual answer is that it depends on the individual site

@hjmaier I have a dedicated server that costs me $200 a month with high protection against DDoS attacks, I host more than 30 websites on it, it works without problems, and it almost doesn't crash, so I don't think I can give up self-hosting🤦
