howdy folks, we got a spam wave rolling in this morning despite 1) the requirement to register by email 2) the requirement to accept guidelines and the privacy policy and 3) having the "invisible" captcha option on. I switched to the second captcha level, but that didn't stop the wave entirely. So in addition to the above, I've now added the requirement for moderator approval for the first post. That seems to have worked. Just a heads up.

I'm trying to cut and paste an excel spreadsheet into a post and suddenly it's pasting it as picture vs the formatted spreadsheet. Greetings, I am looking to add a custom field underneath my users names on the staff directory. So far I've taken a peek at the below thread and am still scratching my head. How can I reference a specific custom profile field using the $user->member() variable in the layout blocks? I did it once before but honestly forgot how and cannot find my way again lol. Is there a place to add CSS and JS in one place that is common to all themes? I could not find a way to add CSS even at the theme level. Ideally, there should be a common.css application-wide and a custom.css for each theme. And the JS file similarly (common.js and custom.js). Otherwise, it will result in redundant CSS and JS for each theme. If there are a dozen themes, the work and redundancy multiplies as many times.

In my experience, on our board, most spammers use custom link text. For example they'll write: Most legit members don't bother naming links. They most often post: Is there a way to automatically put posts with custom link text in an approval queue? Then perhaps I could have a group of known long time users that could skip that approval queue even when they use custom link text? This would help drastically reducing the amount of spam on our forum.

I saw in the APIs a column named registrationIpAddress which was the IP address recorded when the user registered. Under modcp, IP Address Tools, when we query a member, does it use the latest IP address or the registration IP Address or both to link all members who are using the same IP address?

I was doing some SEO stuff and went into the live meta tag editor to check on keywords and so forth. I realized that the meta descriptions automatically generated do not have anything to do with the topic, but only features a snippet from the latest response. Is this normal for it to generate a description from the latest response (may be irrelevant to page)? I think it makes much more sense to generate a description based off the original post since that's generally what the page will be about. And if this is how it generates the meta description, does that mean I have to go into every topic posted and self-correct?

It appears to me that the Approval Queue is for posts etc that are only made visible after approval. However, one of our moderators said it should also be possible to use the Approval Queue for all posted and visible content on a forum, so moderators can sift through them all. In this case, approval only means they have been checked by a moderator. How do I activate this feature? Any help appreciated.

Hi Earlier this year we had a product in our store for a limited time. Is it possible to create a new product that are only available for those members that purchased it? They were not put in any group. I will create a bulk email to them, and there I can filter only those with that previous product. But can it be visible to only them, or only those with that link? I think it either is available in store, or its not? Thanks.

With numerous new GDPR laws going into affect and even AdSense starting to push all sorts of consent hurdles and new rules along the way (plus the general annoyance of data tracking and just dealing with more third party cookies that now need all sorts of listings and such). I was wondering if it was safe to say that selling ads via Commerce was sticking around for 5. I know it was only listed as digital products going away, but I'd rather be safe and ask a dumb question then get burned by a feature change in a few months after switching my methods. Thanks

I've read some previous posts about offering the option of member selected delete. From what I gathered, this is not a good option because of the loss of member-posted content. I think one of the Invision Community team said that the current system is to shift them to guest? Or does the account actions drop down selection, delete, actually delete the member altogether? My idea is to offer a member option to delete their profile which would simply move them to a new group but not a guest. Instead, I would call it Deactivated. All the content would remain but in the topic member summary below their icon, which would also change to a generic icon, the status badge …

I am not sure if I am missing a setting or what, but although I see the poll (as admin), and members see the poll too, they don't have a way to choose an answer. They only see the result, which obviously stays at 0 for all options. What might I be missing?

Hello, I'd like to remove creation dates from database records. It looks like the timestamp template is global, so you can't make changes to CSS or Templates to affect only database entries. Before I hire a programmer, are there any shortcuts to changing this? I want only database records to show the current time and date, not creation date, so that visitors don't get the impression that the information in the records is 'old'.

There used to be a Fluid layout - dynamic listing with Forum filter box that can include topics from Forums and Clubs on a single page. The setting is still there in the ACP but it doesn't render the Fluid switch button on the frontend. Please advise... By the way, what is the size limit on this forum for attachments? Yesterday it was saying 35KB (I uploaded only one screenshot so far) and today it says 8KB. I want to share a "contact me" link in posts on our forum. While creating a blog, it takes a category. Why does it require a category again for creating blog-entries when the parent-blog is already inside a category? For instance, if the blog is in Cooking category, how does it make sense to select Politics category for its blog entry? The issue is, I could not find a way to force users to use predefined categories only for blog entries (similar to blogs and tags). It is giving an option to create new categories which can get abused resulting in too many categories - not to mention, duplicate categories. We're hoping to feature several how-to videos for our upgraded platform. Can anyone recommend a good screen capture video service? We tried Free Cam which only creates .wmv files. In a test post, we dragged the 100mb file to the post and then submitted the topic. The video shows as a link that needs to be downloaded. We would like to embed the video in a forum post so people can watch right there, and perhaps read the description. Thanks for any suggestions in advance.
