5.0.8 Beta 1 is now available!

Work Coding GIF by Pudgy Penguins

We have a bumper beta ready for you all this week. Head over to the release notes to see the full list.

Along with many fixes, this release brings a lot of accessibility updates, UI improvements, new permission extension methods to force include or deny specific node IDs in getItemsWithPermission and nodesWithPermission

We also have a little beta-ish feature we're calling 'Node Groups'.

Groups are a way to easily select multiple forums as a moderator in different areas of the suite.

CleanShot 2025-05-14 at 15.44.32@2x.png

You set up Groups via the Forum page in the AdminCP and then when, as a moderator, you go to choose forums in a forum selector (default streams, saved actions, etc) you can easily select that group instead of having to remember all the forums you'd normally select.

In this little example, I create a group for 'Support' which includes my support forums. Then, when I create a new saved action that I only want to apply to my support forums, I can include that group.

The great thing is that it auto-updates. So adjusting the Forum Group will automatically update where that saved action is available.

We're still rolling this out across the suite, but let us know your thoughts.

  • Just a note to say that 5.0.8 has now been released. Just the one extra bug fix: Fixes an issue where guests could comment on blogs when the group setting was set to off.

  • You actually like autoplay? I always disable that in my browser settings first thing.

Thanks for letting us know. I have corrected that issue.

Updated and running sweet. Thanks Matt! Will check out the new grouping feature as it sounds good.

same deal on localhost xampp downloaded 5.0.8 beta 1 fresh install and have modified files how dose this happen and how do I fix it? I have not modified any files its a fresh upload from my client area.

Some of the source files for Invision Community have been modified.

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/applications/convert/sources/Software/Core/Smf.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/applications/convert/sources/Software/Forums/Smf.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/applications/convert/sources/Tools/Quill/output.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/applications/convert/sources/Tools/Quill/src/Lexer.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/applications/convert/sources/Tools/Quill/src/Line.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/static/templates/core_front_clubs.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/static/templates/core_front_global.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/static/templates/gallery_front_global.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/static/templates/gallery_front_view.php

  • C:\xampp\htdocs\5.0.8/static/templates/nexus_front_clients.php

You should download an unmodified copy of those files and upload them to your server. Once that is done, check if the problem persists.

I do not have a setting in the constant.php file to use beta on my live website. However, I get a notification in the ACP telling me to install this beta.

I'd recommend Laravel Herd for localhost.

The only thing I can think of is \n versus \r

Just add define( 'UPGRADE_MD5_CHECK', false ); into your constants.php file.

I can confirm this, too. Got update email and notification in ACP.

I also have a notice to upgrade for a security patch, I'm on 5.0.7 already.

So for the security release. Looking at release notes 5.0.7 is the fix release. Not keen on jumping on a beta1, looks like a few of us are getting the beta notice despite not being enrolled on it.

So is 5.0.8 beta 1 the security upgrade or not, because thats what I'm offered from the 'fix this' button click?

Or put another way, how beta is beta1?

Thanks.

Question? When will the full version be released of v5?

It is :) . This is just the beta of the next release of version 5, which is 5.0.8. As you are Cloud and on a legacy plan, you would need to upgrade to one of the latest plans to have access to version 5 though. Feel free to submit a Contact Us form to our accounts department and we can assist you do that.

@Matt @Marc None of this helped unfortenly, tested new setup on Laravel Herd and still same issue there
Also addeddefine( 'UPGRADE_MD5_CHECK', false ); to constants. without success

Only so you know

Cheers

Have now tested this on three platforms , mamp pro , laravel herd and @Drewfus on xampp , this start happend i think after 5.0.6

Double check you have added this line properly to the correct place, as if thats not working, there is probably something fundamentally wrong about what it is you're doing there. That essentially switches the check off entirely. Without access, unfortunately its hard to tell whats going on.

Is a ticket recommended or can one just follow the prompts via the Client Area? I only ask because I updated one of my sites via the prompts in the Client Area and will be doing so with another site in the near future. And if I do it via the prompts, it will upgrade to a stable release and not the latest Beta, correct?

Thanks.

There is no difference between you doing it yourself and us doing it. Submitting a ticket was only recommended as the individual was not aware and had questions.

I didn't think so but wanted to be sure, thank you. Also, I had edited my post to ask about the upgrade and whether or not it will be a stable version and not a beta release. I assume it will be a stable version but again, just want to be sure with a live environment.

Unless you opt into betas, you will only see the stable releases.

Implement recommended tags

Interesting, can more information about this be obtained? How will they be recommended?

Matt posted an image just below the text you quoted detailing the process to mark them as recommended in the ACP 😊. They then will be at the top of lists to be recommended and highlighted as such.

It's nothing to do with the update, but I find this internet connection error page very attractive, good, unlike the standard page.

Otherwise, the beta 2 update was successful.
