Entering a poll without a post
by Guest escout- 2 replies
- 1.7k views
When creating a new poll, but forgetting to enter any post text, it goes to a new screen: Clicking back to go and fix it, and you've lost all your poll questions and answers! It would be better if it worked the same as adding a poll but not putting a topic title; it prompts then & there to enter a topic title without losing the poll options. (btw, I'm using the wysiwyg editor; no idea if that has any bearing on it)

Quick edit, empty the post
by Guest escout- 1 reply
- 1.7k views
OK, so this is pretty unlikely, except from noobs trying to "delete" their post perhaps? If you quick edit a post, delete all the post text, then "complete edit" and "cancel edit" don't work. Perhaps it could prompt to just delete the topic/post instead (if the user is allowed to do that)

Topic views caching - confuses almost everyone
by Guest nicoo- 4 replies
- 2.1k views
The new feature in IPB 2.1 to cache the topic-views may be a good thing, but as long as it stays at 0, most people are confused, particularly if there are already answers in the thread. Here on IPS-Board it is ok, as most people either read that this is a feautre in the IPB_2.1 Road Map or somewhere it is explained in some threads. But on non IPB-related content forums, this won't/may not be discussed, and it really appears to be a bug if you are not aware of this feauture. I think writing "-" instead of "0" could help not to confuse the users as much as their are now. I am trying to find a better solution, but don't find anything better. Or perhaps "u" as ab…

Put thread title in email
by Guest Gary King- 2 replies
- 1.8k views
I would suggest putting the thread title in subscription email subject lines, so people know which one of their threads were updated without opening the email. Also, it would be good especially for Gmail, since right now, without any differences in the thread title, the subscription emails are ALL in one email, so a person would have to sift through every single email to see which one they haven't checked yet.

Invision Power Board Tables
by Guest tsutton- 0 replies
- 1.7k views
ADMIN -> SQL Management -> SQL Toolbox Please bring back the total database size on the bottom of the table listing. It's there on 2.0.4 but it's not there on 2.1 Beta 4. I found it very useful and I am asking nicely to bring it back. :)

For Site Integration purposes, it would be neat if IPS developed an intermediary class that receives input (GET) strings, and returns IPB

ipb_templates.xml template order
by Guest K. T. Walrus- 2 replies
- 2.9k views
Whenever there is a new release of IPB, I "diff -r" the files against the previous release to see what has changed. For the most part, this works well, but the ipb_templates.xml seems to be produced with the template XML unordered. So, there are always tons of differences reported even though only a few templates are actually changed. Could you please consider apply some ORDER to the template bits in ipb_templates.xml when you produce this file? Ordering by group_name, func_name should do the trick. As it is now, I have to install the board in a test installation and then diff the skin_cache files which are ordered. It would also be a good idea if all the othe…

Blind Moderator = impossible
by Guest cowudders- 21 replies
- 5.9k views
Hi, I have a blind user of my forum who I have made a moderator. However, she is unable to do anything as the little tick boxes in the posts are all images, so she cannot tell if the boxes are checked or not. IMHO the images serve no real purpose, and it would actually be clearer to sighted users too. A simple HTML based check box, something like: would be all that is required. This would make it very clear which topics were selected, and would be compatible with computer speech sythesis software, thus enabling blind users to be moderators too. This is very annoying, and she feels alienated by this. This should be a really simple piece of code to fix.

set_error_handler call could pass error_types for PHP 5
by Guest K. T. Walrus- 1 reply
- 1.6k views
I noticed that my_error_handler() is invoked thousands of times during a page execution due to your coding style of referencing unset variables. You might want to set the new PHP 5 error_types parameter on the call to set_error_handler so at least for those users that run with PHP 5, they won't have the overhead of all those extra calls for E_NOTICE warnings. I've been mod'ing IPB recently and have made some mistakes of mistyping variable names. It would be nice if you scrubbed the code to avoid the E_NOTICE warnings so those like me that are making changes can turn on E_NOTICE error_reporting and spot our bugs. Also, it might be nice to have an option to redire…

$this->ipsclass not avaliable to constructor
by Guest marcele- 3 replies
- 2.7k views
In my previous post where I gave an example of a better way to pass around the $ipsclass object ..you said.. "I'll likely do that when PHP 5 is used more than PHP 4." .. The example I gave was based on php5 however you can do the same thing via php4..This way you have access to the $ipsclass object in any constructors. Just trying to help out ;) $ipsclass->sess = new session($ipsclass); class session{ var $ipsclass; var $ip_address; function session(&$ipsclass) { $this->ipsclass = &$ipsclass; $this->ip_address = $this->ipsclass->parse_clean_value($_SERVER['REMOTE_ADDR']); }

Buddy List Suggestion

IPB 2.0.x to 2.1 Skin Upgrader
by Guest ChrisA- 3 replies
- 1.9k views
I have just imported a load of my IPB 2.0.x skins into my 2.1 demo board, and it stricks me that even though the skin changes are probably not complete yet, there doesn't seem to be any easy means by which to make your existing skins aside from the IPB default skin compatable with IPB 2.1 - I certainly can't find anything in the AdminCP, which is listing all the HTML elements as 'unedited' in the imported skins - which indeed is true, but they do not work in IPB 2.1 (aside from the extra images - easy enough to fix really, you have all the new Javascrpt menus etc.) So some kind of package which at least assists in upgrading your old skins so they are at least useable a…

Get Notified via PM upon new registration
by Guest .Tim- 7 replies
- 2.4k views
I have my board setup for Admin validation of new users. Rather than having to check my email to find out about new registrations, it would be of greater value to have the system prepare a PM and send it to any user that has access to the ACP.... that way, whichever admin gets the PM first, they can validate the user. It would be handy, especially in times where the root admin is not available for X number of days, whereas other users who have ACP access could validate users.

Topic Subscriptions Improvement
by Guest air-head- 0 replies
- 1.5k views
I think it'd be great if in your subscriptions for topics in one's User CP you could see the page numbers or when you clicked on the the thread it would take you to the last page or post, or at least the first unread post. I usually subscribe to a thread and check through there for new posts, and being taken to the first is a bit annoying when checking on the fly. It gets tedious. :)

Suggestion: Have Users Create their Own Webpage
by Guest chopin- 2 replies
This is something I haven't seen offered yet. A script by invision to create and manage a forum members own personal webpage. For example, it would be nice if my forum members can just upload their personal files (such as music) and arrange their own page, links, music files, and pictures the way they want. The files gallery is a good idea, (however is it just pictures?) but for a user to manage his/her own webpage would also be a very good idea I think. I have been looking around for a script like this for awhile, and haven't found many good ones. Features like integrated billing system for creating a users profile would be an ingenious idea. Unless I am missing so…

Topic Preview
by Guest John IV- 0 replies
- 1.6k views
I have a feature suggestion. I suggest that when you have your cursor over a topic title, it shows a short description of what the topic is about. The topic poster can enter a short description when posting, and that is what will be shown. Or maybe, it could just show the first few words of the topic. I believe this can be done with JavaScript. :)

Improving Membership!
by Guest cam drysdale- 1 reply

Okay on websites such as MSN.com you have what is known as a Microsoft .Net Passport that allows you to sign in on any website that is connected to this service. Members have a whole load of features at their disposal and can setup detailed profiles and display photos, and have unique Nicknames. On IPB the same system can be ALMOST be implemented, say a company/website wanted to setup such a service for customers, you set up the converge for email sign in, and then have their username as a kinda nickname, and the pho is a bit hidden. I think it'd be better if the whole member system was a lot more like MSN's in terms of the layout of membership profile pages, promoting…

update topic view. Admin can choose amount
by Guest Dlf- 2 replies
- 1.8k views
Wouldn't it be nice to be able to choose the amount of time topics views update? May go by forum/forum bais. and yes I know of: ACP->TOOLS & SETTINGS->CPU SAVING & ORGIZATION->Update Topic Views Immediately If enabled, the topic views counter will be updated as one loads a topic. If not enabled, the topic views will be written to another table and the topic views updated every 6 hours. This will significantly reduce overhead on the topics table if you have a very busy board as it overcomes the write lock initiated when the topic counter is updated. Someone/people would probley like to choose like 30 mins, a day, a week, etc.

I would like to see the calendar as a component, so it can be removed and added similar to the gallery etc. That way we can freely remove it, replace it with a modded calendar etc. Personal preference, but it would be good to see.

Thats all folks! :shifty: (porkey pig refrense) [*]Turn the board offline for x amount of time - Does what it sounds like. Turn the board offline for like 15 days. [*]Turn off indivual forums - Instead of turning off all forums (globaly) you can turn off indivual forums. [*]Turn off indivual forums for x amount of time - Sort of like the above two, but combined. Be able to turn off certain forums for x amount of time. [*]Go to next "setting" - In Tools & settings->System settings->View all general settings we should be able to go to the next or previous "setting". so without hitting back go from like search engine bots to search set-up, or Personal me…
