For Google Sheets, you need to change the access so anyone with the link can view. Can you update that setting and try again on your community.

That worked, thank you.

iFramely integration is really cool because members can finally embed Instagram posts again. Unfortunately my community surpassed the free tier of 1000 hits in less than 24 hours lol.

Personally, I'd be a bit concerned about using iframely for user generated content on a community, as the way I understand it, there is the potential to end up with unexpected bills. Obviously it's possible to monitor usage, but if you're not on the ball with it, even on the free account (after the trial period you will need to put in your card details) there are overage fees possible, and no way to block that from happening other than switching it off when you near your limits.

We already have an account with them, and the last time I spoke to them about this (during the spring), they said they were planning to bring in overage warnings etc, but from what I can see, they haven't been added yet.

Just something to consider perhaps.

How did it happen? Did your forum members post over 1,000 comments with iFramely embeds in 24 hours?

I should do a little digging, but I’m assuming a hit counts as every time the embed loads on a page. So a few engaging topics with an IG embed and boom: threshold met

Yeah, my excitement about this is waning. I suspect I will remove the integration as this is not affordable on a hobby site.

The beauty lies within the whitelisting. You don’t need to whitelist every domain, but you can control which items to have embed. For example, instagram only. For anything else, it would use the same frame as usual.

So, if I have a thread that has 5 posts with an Instagram link (5 separate links) and that page is viewed 1000 times, did I use up 5000 of my credits?

As I understand it every embed gets unlimited hits per-hour at the cost of "1 hit".

So suppose a single topic page of 25 posts has 5 Instagram embeds. For every unique hour that topic is read it will count as five hits.

If your forum is active 12 hours a day (for this argument no views at all the other 12), that's 60 hits a day just on that single topic page. That one page alone with go over the free tier in 17 days. The math you can work from there. The Facebook/Instagram embeds are not viable for hobby sites with active forums posting those.

It is a great solution for embeds from lesser used sites - can we blacklist? - that would let us kill the FB/Insta pile and let the others fly. If/when those lesser known site embeds get too popular on your site then you have a target for custom work to provide native support for them or ask IPS for native support.

For corporate sites this integration is a win as the paid-tiers are rounding errors (if that) for their budgets.

Meta and Twitter really went out of their way to enpoopify this stuff a few years back. I hate it.

I'm turning mine off.

It's too bad, I was interested.

thanks guys! Can we cache the iFramely embed code returned from the API? This way we serve from the cache and dont incremement API counters.

This is not something we would do on our end, as it is an iframe

Me too... :)

Upgraded!

Unfortunately our bug with warning users and disabled date fields was not fixed.

On the other side no complains after upgrade. 👍

Great.

I have a long list of warnings ready for the test. 😄

There is a self-hosting script on GitHub which doesn't have the limits, but I don't know how practical it is to host or even if Invision supports it.

We do not have any direct support for self hosted iFramely code at the present time.
