December 1, 20168 yr I got it! the Designers' Mode was active, I have disabled it then the widget started to work!
December 4, 20168 yr I updated to 4.1.16.1, made the edits again, and still no luck. Mentions also don't display with the link and the hover card. Forgot to mention that it also doesn't work on the default theme. @Mike John, would it help if you had ACP access or no?

Sorry I wasn't clear; I meant to say that the initial status post in the widget -- the top-level post, if you will -- does not embed anything, whilst the replies to the status do embed things. This can be seen in the widget at the moment, with the status update that starts: "If Google could...".
