It is still unclear to me if I will get sadly surprised after upgrader from v4 to v5. My doubts are if I will find out any limits regarding features or possibilities. I prefer and I am partly forced to use self-hosted version. V4 gave freedom, is v5 still like this?

I use pages widely, commerce (PayPal), support requests, forums and several custom apps.

Its not actually an easy question to answer. In some ways more restrictive (purposely) and in others it gives more freedom.

Pages - Yes, and actually the page editor (previously block manager) is a lot better
Support Request - These have been removed entirely quite some time ago.
Paypal - Yes
Forums - Yes
Custom Apps - Yes, although all would need to be rewritten for version 5

You would need to switch your PHP version to a supported version. Version 8.4, while you appear to have had it working, is not yet supported. What has changed here are the PHP requirement checks to make it more specific. Rather than stating we support over x version, we now explicitly state which versions we support, as when a new version came out people were upgrading before we had chance to update the software

If you have issues with changing the PHP version, your best option there would be to revert to the backup taken prior to your upgrade

I don't get this. You guys created a version that I installed 3 weeks ago, which worked on 8.4 without giving me any warnings of the dangers. It then prompts me to update, without again warning that the board would become inaccessible. Then I'm trapped in an upgrade loop, as there is no Cancel option. I can't revert to a backup as the server doesn't have a backup that goes back more than 1 day. Is there a way to manually push through the update, or will I be stuck with a downed community until 8.5 is supported?

As mentioned in your topic, you will need to downgrade to PHP 8.3 which is a supported version of our software or restore your files from the backup you took prior to the upgrade.

This is the issue which we are trying to prevent and is a new feature in this release of our software. We apologize for the inconvenience of being stuck but if you install on or use a version of PHP that is not supported, that also will cause issues/headaches/tickets and what we are trying to prevent here.

I'm trying to update to 5, but the update link takes me to my monthly payment status.

Sorry, but I can't find the update button for V5.

If you are on self-hosted you have to do a manual upgrade. There is no automatic updater. On cloud I think IPS can help you.

Admin , system , get support you can update from there.

Do I need to disable all theme customizations before upgrading to V5?

Version 4 themes will not work in version 5 so no. They will be removed anyway.

I'm fine with them being removed. I still can't find the option to upgrade in the support area nor when I am in Applications and I hit the update Button.

Can you please go in and update to V5 for me?

Have you uploaded the v5 files to your root then you go to https://yourdomain/admin/upgrade

Make sure you backup your site just in case you need to go back.

As a Cloud customer, you’ll need to go to Client Area > Manage Purchases > click your package > Upgrade to version 5

So, to an absolute layman.

I'm considering upgrading to V5 from V4.

Should I hit the upgrade, am I looking at starting afresh with the design etc... Or does my current layout of forums etc 'transfer over' etc....

I don't want a load of downtime on the site having to mess about with figuring out how things work!!!

Your site doesn't appear to have too many modifications, if any. It should be easy enough. Not too many posts either, so rather quick - less than an hour would be my guess.

Of course, the required disclaimer, make a backup!!!

Thanks pal. We've slowed down quite a bit recently with the footy season ending! But not massive anyway, so it's quite a nice little community :)
