Does anyone have a fix for the Unread/Mark Read locations? I prefer that they be available at the top and bottom of the page as they currently are in v4. The “mark content read’ is hidden under the member's name.

It’s a dynamic link. Can’t be put in the menu or a theme template since the customizations of those are gone. Could only be changed with an app.

Best solution would be that IPS reconsiders hiding it in a menu.

Just more clicks added. 😔 Just hate to scroll to the bottom of a long list and then have to scroll all the way back to the top, hunt around for the link just to mark it all read.

I’ve moved this to our Feedback forum rather than support as there is no current option.

Hi @dmaidon1,

There are Unread Content links both at the top and bottom of the page.

Mark all content as read is found after clicking your username, but I think this works well as it prevents someone from clicking it accidentally.

I don’t want to come across as condescending of course, but can’t you just hit Home or End on your keyboard when on your PC or clicking the top of your browser/screen on a phone to prevent scrolling so much?

Why hide “Mark all content as read”? Are they ashamed of it? My users are already complaining about the editor with all the hidden links and commands and trying to locate the “Unread/Mark Read” commands. My users are teeny boppers that walk around constantly with their phones in their hands.

I’m not a newbie, been running this software since 1990-91. I’ll just chalk it up as another feature gone by the wayside.

How often are you really using “Mark all content as read”? Surely not as often as “Unread content” or other prominent links. (I think in the last 5 years, I’ve used it twice) Change is hard and we get that but when asking for a feature to come back, use cases are very helpful 🙂. Why do you need it where it was?

Daily on several sites.

I have my favorite set to Unread Content.

I right click on topics I want to read, then I need to scroll to the top, click my name, find the link, and click it.

In the past, I read the topics, was at the bottom of the page, and simply clicked the link.

First world issue, but this is now significantly harder to do.

v5 takes a lot more clicks to do things we could do instantly before. That’s a fact. 🤷‍♂️

The editor is especially frustrating with all the most used options hidden in menus you have to click to open (code box, lists, quote, text align, font size, etc). It might make sense from a development/logic point of view, but users don’t care a bit about that, they want to be able to access things quickly. I’ve asked from the start to move the codebox as a button on the toolbar instead of hiding it in a menu. Same for quote. 😔

I understand the sentiment, but I’m not sure I’d agree with it being “significantly harder”. Sure, you have to click into a menu.

Please remember that everything is new. We are concentrating on getting final out at present, rather than making changes. However this is not to say that there wont be changes coming over subsequent releases, based on feedback. ☺️

Daily being once a day? While, I certainly understand that it is more clicks and more effort but playing devils advocate here, is seeing it on every page in a prominent location worth that one click a day as opposed to 2? Is there something else more suited to put there?

As Marc mentioned, we’re open to feedback here but part of feedback is also challenging the norms. Just because it was there and you got used to it, doesn’t mean there isn’t something else that is better suited there or that is the best place for it.

I visit this site several times a day. It used to be very simple to mark things as read. Now it’s several clicks away.

Again, a first world problem.

I visit several other sites once or twice a day too - they used to be in Marketplace, but that was removed, so now it’s nearly impossible to find add-ons. It’s nice that most of those are still on v4, so if there are posts I am not interested in, I can simply click the mark read link.

I liked the post count, that was removed (or possibly never there).

I LOVED seeing the title of the next unread topic as one of my sites is for cycling and I don’t like spoilers when the Tour de France is on. Now a lot of suspense gets ruined for me as we watch it a day or two later. That option was removed.

I could go on with the many items we liked that were removed, as could others.

This is your software, I assumed you were interested in customer feedback, over the years, I really don’t get that sense. Just because you don’t like a feature, doesn’t mean we don’t.

I won’t complain or make suggestions any longer.

Every time I visit here, unless there are only 1 or 2 messages. Most of the messages do not interest me so, the “Mark all content as read” is really handy. I visit here quite a few times a day. Probably more than most users on here.

I didn’t mean to pee in your coffee. 😊 I was just looking to see if anyone had a fix for my problem because as a user, this is a problem to me. I used to write software back in the BBS days so I know what it’s like to get complaints and suggestions. Some things get thrown out in the dishwater.

Sorry you feel that way, we certainly do not want that. As mentioned though, challenging a use-case is part of the feedback process. We’re engaging to see how you use it and what that impact is. Part of the feedback process maybe is doing something differently or we learn to put this somewhere else because of how you answer.

We’re not saying you don’t have a point but constructively challenging alternatives and also seeing, is what you’re doing the norm for all users or just your own (again, you’re not wrong if you use something one way or another).

We certainly listen to customer feedback, many of our features over the years are because of customer feedback. However, we will certainly make changes along the way, even if we get a few voices saying no. Afterall, we have thousands of customers so have to weigh each suggestion. If we kept the software the same, we simply wouldn’t be around anymore so it is a hard balance of keeping customers happy and progressing the software/our business.

I am not going to touch some of the items you mentioned as they are a beaten horse at this point but it doesn’t mean we don’t respect your opinion.

If you’re constantly marking things as read that don’t interest you, it may be worth you time more to create a custom feed or follow the items you’re interested in. That way only that content is brought up or easier to sort through. Just a thought.

By no means did you 😉. Challenging feedback does not mean that you made us mad, it simply is a means to understand your use-case and challenge a different means of going about something.
