New user restrictions
The below is what shows for a 'Newbie' Looking at their profile in the Member View are of their account, when they were moved to "Banner", it shows them moving from "Member to Banned" That looks like they went straight to being a "Member" rather than being a "Newbie" - there is no mention of them being a 'Newbie' I am guessing I need to be looking at what group a newly registered person goes into, as it looks like they are going to step 2, rather than step 1. Is that something that I can correct please?

New user restrictions
Thank you for the information @Jim M We already had the below set up, the user I mention posted twice (first posts) directly onto the forum last night without needing approval Uploading Attachment... Interestingly this morning, it has become apparent some words we have blocked in the filter have been getting through as well

New user restrictions
Apologies for another question We have a user group called 'Newbies', this has always been a group people go into when they first create an account. We had an incident last night where a new poster registered etc, but was then able to post false and offensive claims about an employee of a Football Club. Is the below possible please? When someone first joins, they join the 'Newbie' group They are unable to send Personal Messages in this group Their first 3 post have to be approved before appearing After 5 posts they move from 'Newbie' to 'Member' Members are able to send Personal Messages I hate to say I have no idea how or where to start with the above, but would be grateful if all or some of it could be explained please

Amending Terms and Privacy Policy
Bit of a picky request here, on our site our Rules etc and known as "Rules and Regulations" but the heading seems to be locked as "Site Guidelines" Is there anywhere "Site Guidelines" can be amended, as our policy isn't really a guideline, it is more a rule and a fact Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated

Bulk Message and Banner Message
Apologies for the delay in replying, bank holiday vacation time :-) I have had a look for this, when I search for alerts nothing is found, should I be searching under something else?

Bulk Message and Banner Message
Thank you I am not sure we would ever use it again so not sure about buying an add on Does that mean we would have had a paid add on in the past to enable us to have done it?

Bulk Message and Banner Message
We are looking to push our paid membership that we offer. I am sure in the past on V4 we had the ability to both message all registered users - the preference would be to get the message on the forum rather than via an email, as we are not sure how many actually read their emails. Also when we upgraded to V5 before the upgrade we put a message that appeared on the top of the page when someone logged in next I hate to say that I can't see how I can do either, I have searched various topics but to no joy. If the above is possible, I (we) would be very grateful for any assistance

Who's Online
Brilliant - Thank you, found what I was looking for and more

Who's Online
Just piggy backing on this topic @Jim M , is there anyway to hide the "Who's online" list completely? It doesn't show on our mobile version, but as we have hundreds of users online it takes up a lot of the page online. There is an option to see the "Full list" I guess if the list could be collapsed and only viewed if someone clicks on expand button it could help - maybe even just for admin

Thank you, I will have a look at the list Silly question, how do I go about installing V5?

5.0.15 is now available!
As always Thank you for all the help and support we get for our forum. Sadly our all round knowledge isn't great but we can get by, the original owner changed jobs so we took it on One question I am puzzled about, I have read about V5 being released for well over a year now, but my forum is still on version 4.7.23. Should "we" be doing something to push through the upgrade to V5, or is it a case of being in a queue for it to be rolled out? Additionally, do we "have to" upgrade to V5, my concern is we may have to relearn things and potentially our current add ons may be lost Apologies if this is something very obvious but I am a bit lost as to what to do

Subject Access Request (SAR)
Hello We had a user on our forum who despite having previous warnings continued to post offensive comments to other members, eventually, after applying temporary restrictions we were left with no other choice than to ban a user. In the months since, they have reregistered under different names / emails / IP addresses, but they break cover and we ban them again... and again... Earlier this year the user wrote to us asking about GDPR and asked for their account to be deleted, which we did, we also replied explaining there were no records of them held now their account had been deleted. We have now received the below email from the same user again, and hate to say I am unsure of how to reply to them I have contacted all our mod team and they all say they have not made any contact with the user - our hunch is he is calling our bluff Would it be possible to have any advice / guidance on what we can reply please? .................................... Hi Everyone, A moderator has now explicitly stated to me that the forum uses “fingerprinting” / device identification to recognise users. On that basis, I am making a formal Subject Access Request under the UK GDPR, and I’m also asking you to confirm your position under PECR in relation to cookies and similar technologies UK GDPR — Subject Access Request (Article 15) Please provide a copy of all personal data you hold about me, including (but not limited to): A) Fingerprinting / device recognition Any device/browser fingerprint data held about me (even if stored or described internally as “device identifiers”, “security signals”, “risk scoring”, “probabilistic identifiers”, etc.) The specific attributes collected/derived (e.g., device/browser characteristics, configuration data, behavioural signals) and how they are combined/used Any unique identifiers generated from this data and how long they persist Whether this data is linked to my account directly, and if so how B) Logs and other identifiers IP address history and timestamps (login/activity logs) User-agent strings and device/OS/browser details captured Cookie IDs, session IDs, and any local storage or similar identifiers associated with my account/sessions C) Moderation / security / anti-abuse data Any moderation notes, flags, decisions, ban history (if applicable), anti-spam / anti-abuse outcomes, and any “risk scores” or classifications applied to my account/device D) Third parties and sharing The recipients or categories of recipients this data is shared with (including Invision/IPS services, spam defence providers, analytics providers, or any other third parties), and what data fields are shared with each E) Purposes, lawful basis, retention The purposes for processing each category of data The lawful basis relied upon for each purpose Retention periods (or clear criteria used to determine them) for fingerprinting/device data, IP logs, and related identifiers Please supply the above in a commonly used electronic format. If you need further information to verify my identity, please specify exactly what you require. UK GDPR requires you to respond without undue delay and in any event within one month of receipt of this request. PECR / transparency — cookies and “similar technologies” Given the moderator’s statement that fingerprinting is used, please confirm the following: A) Where is this fingerprinting disclosed to users (privacy notice and/or cookie/tech notice), in clear terms? B) Is fingerprinting used only for strictly necessary security/anti-abuse purposes, or also for analytics/measurement/other purposes? C) What consent mechanism is relied upon where fingerprinting (or any non-essential tracking) is not strictly necessary? D) Do any analytics or third-party scripts/cookies load before a user has made a consent choice? Please confirm your implementation. This follow-up is not a general complaint — it’s a request for specific information and copies of the personal data you hold about me, prompted by the moderator’s confirmation that fingerprinting is being used. Regards

Subscription information
Hello all, We have a subscription on our forum that entitles a user to upgrade for additional access and benefits on the forum I have noticed that we have a large number of lapsed members, so in discussion we are wondering how best to interact with these people. If is possible they no longer wish to subscribe but equally a number of people have said in the past that they simply didn't realise their membership had expired. In addition those that handle the finances requested we removed the option to renew by PayPal, and now to only use Stripe (which we have done) I have been asked; Can we have a list of lapsed members (including e-mail addresses), so we can invite them to return to the fold? Can we get a list of renewal dates for members currently paying by PayPal (so we can invite them to renew via Stripe when the time comes)? Additionally I wondered if there was way we could mass contact those members via the forum somehow, or if they need to be actioned one by one? Thank you in advance
