It looks like the Commerce VAT ID is failing every time on all my sites. I tried multiple IDs from different numbers I know are correct but I only get error messages.

  • “The VAT number provided is not valid.” (most of the time)
  • “There was an error validating the VAT number. Please try again later or contact us for assistance.” (sometimes)

I have created a ticket on this for you so that we can take a look. If you can resspond to that with an example, we can then take a look. If it's the same issue, it may be that we need to contact the validation service with the issue though. I believe last time it was a bug on their end

any update on this issue? 

We are currently experiencing the same problem and this is not allowing some customers to make a purchase on our Community. 

 

This was fixed back in 4.7.7. So if you are having issues and below that version, you would need to upgrade.

Nope, we are on 4.7.16 and recently a customer experienced this same error message “The VAT number provided is not valid.”

I would need an example so we can take a look at this for you

For others, this requires the country prefix, so ensure this is added. I have however opened a bug report to see if we can validate this better
