Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications Matt November 11, 2024Nov 11
Posted Friday at 12:32 AM5 days Hi All, Curious to understand the upgrade path I will need to take to move our current live site from 4.7.6 to 5.0.0 upon the beta testing phase ending. Can I do an import of all data into a brand new 5.0.0 install? Or is it the case of upgrading to the latest IC4 release then upgrading to IC5? The key requirement in this upgrade is for our over 100 subscribers to not be disrupted or need to re-subscribe with the move. Thanks, Mad Edited Friday at 12:33 AM5 days by Madhouseau
Friday at 03:23 AM5 days You can perform a Manual Upgrade from 4.7.6 to whatever v5 version is available at the time (5.0.0, 5.0.1, etc): That's valid only if you're self-hosted, though. If you're using the Cloud, the IPS Staff can reply instead. 😅
Friday at 03:29 AM5 days Hi @Madhouseau, Make sure you backup your database and current files and folders though just in case something goes pear-shaped.
Friday at 07:52 AM5 days It would be a manual upgrade, by uploading files, then running the upgrader. I would however say, that while you can do this, its usually advisable to do the point releases as you go. The longer you leave upgrades, the more you are increasing the risk of issues.

Imo the best way to go about such a large upgrade is first to duplicate your main forum to your test forum and then proceed with upgrading the test forum first. Doing that will allow you to see what to expect from the upgrade when you are ready to upgrade your main forum. This way you won't be in for any surprises that the upgrade process might throw at you. I 100% agree with you and we were for some time until Two addons were no longer updated and broke when we attempted to update over a year ago. These addons were essential for our community: Brilliant Discord Steam login
