Posted June 29, 201311 yr Hello, A lot of your guides in regards of creating applications and related stuff (especially proper exporting of applications) does not have a coverage in real environment. I was trying to follow the steps you described and I met loads of issues meanwhile I had to sort out myself. Until now I have a lot of issues nobody wants to resolve for me as Support claims your built-in application exporting system as Custom work and sends us Contributor forum where I also get very General Info. This is not first topic with request about that. Hope you can update us of how to use your application exporting system properly.. From my point of view you complicated so basic system maximally. Thanks!
July 1, 201311 yr You don't "export" applications. You copy the physical folder and zip it up, and distribute that. What part about the process is unclear exactly from the documentation that could be improved?
July 1, 201311 yr You don't "export" applications. You copy the physical folder and zip it up, and distribute that. What part about the process is unclear exactly from the documentation that could be improved? Building the templates and xml files from the ACP. There are buttons all over the place when in_dev mode. You have to export application modules, settings, skins, languages all as xml files. I didn't even know until later on that the whole thing can be done with the buildInDev script. It'd be nice to just have a doc that covers all these export options, as well as covers the xml files that you have to write manually (these are currently scattered..though I can only think of one at the moment, the <templategroups> section of the information.xml file) and then has a checklist for your physical folders to zip such as reminding you to check if you added js files or images to the public directory or created a new directory in the uploads directory. Just some suggestions that I think would be helpful. :)
July 1, 201311 yr I really wish the process for exporting all of the various XML files was available in developer mode on a per-application basis rather than a per-type basis. If my application has language bits, skin templates, settings, modules, etc., I have to go to each of these areas and export them for all apps. I would much rather go to the applications page and export all of the XMLs for a given app in one shot.
