I have to plan my costs right now. Is it worth to develop apps right now and buy apps and skins? What about very very rough time table? :unsure:

This is what my guess also was. Just wanted to hear your opinions. Even when 4.0 is released I would not go with it till 4.1 or 4.2. And it is another portion of time from 4.0 to 4.1...

Just because 4.0 is released doesn't mean you would need to upgrade to it immediately.

I would venture a guess that we will see 4.0 by the end of the year. Likely sooner based on the full featured blog entries showing new functionality.

If you mean 4.0.1 or 4.0.2, those will likely come in the couple weeks after 4.0. If you truly meant 4.1 or 4.2, we're talking years till you see those major versions... That's like saying you were going to wait for 3.4 when 3.2 came out.

If IPS repeats what was done on last big releases, probably in October/November will see Betas and RCs around here.

Yes. I meant 4.1 at least. I try not to use X.0 versions in production at all and think that those X.0 should become mature first... :D

The problem on big updates like that is that EVERYBODY wants ALL hooks/apps upgraded in one week, in order to upgrade their boards.

My hope is that IPS will provide a good developer documentation on every topic of how to port applications to 4.0 with ease :unsure:

I'm looking forward to the update to 4.0 yes it'll be stressful for developers to relearn sections maybe, but it's going to be fun! :P

Sure. But the developers' "radio" sounds so good and consequent that I would rather develop for 4.0 than for 3.4 :D

I personnaly dont agree with you, since Christmas, 31th december and 1st januari are also free days, that will probably if we follow you beta schedule after the new year.
