  1. https://simpletractors.com/collections/ Here's my implementation, with about 1200 records. You'll need to log in to view. User: Josh PW: tester
  2. Let me set some context, before I explain. My site is a 19 year old virtual club for enthusiasts and collectors of a specific brand of antique garden tractors. It includes a significant online library of contributed resources of all types, plus an active Classifieds ads (free) that allows them to buy, sell or trade for free with real folks avoiding Craigslist scammers and hassles ( we have always required users to provide their real name, city, state) or eBay costs. It also supports an aftermarket of reproduction parts. In addition to researching and finding things or asking questions, users can document their collection and their projects in a variety of ways (a custom tractor registry - now using Pages + collections, photo gallery, build log blog, a Show & Tell forum specifically for that, etc.) We also have a Facebook page and a Facebook group. The page is simply to stake a place and hang a shingle on Facebook - because we are a virtual club, many of the FB tools for a business owner to use on their page simply does not apply - and most imprtantly, because search engines and such penalize me if I don't have one. Consequently that page doesn't see much traffic, and the content is not very dynamic. The Facebook Group is used to "push" key things from my site into Facebook so that users can then share that info with their friends, family, other groups, etc. We share new classified ads, blog updates, new photo gallery items, new registry entries, etc - so that our users who are in Facebook can then share their hobby with their friends, family, etc. My site has over 9000 users, and the FB group has over 1000 members. We do not actively encourage users to post in that FB group, much less use it for general chit-chat. Similarly, we don't encourage status updates on the club site. I really don't care what they had for lunch, what their kids/grandkids now look like, or where they went on vacation. But, if they have something significant or meaningful related to their tractor hobby, I want to capture that, catalog/index it, and save it for posterity (rather than it disappear with the latest Photobucket policy change, when MySpace or or other free photo repository fades away, etc.) I want to add that to our knowledge base and repository and make it easily searchable and shareable. In addition, we have a News and Announcements forum for news about the club, the site, or its software - and we share all topics in it to Facebook. Meanwhile, our moderators also monitor that Facebook group and should someone ask a question there, they respond and if possible provide a link back to the site for more details, resources, etc. We try to use Facebook as a means for our users to share info about their hobby with a wider audience, to "market" who we are and what we can provide to a wider audience (especially younger users who live in their phones but may seldom use a computer), and as a way to broadcast news and updates about the site and the club. I don't try to compete head to head with FB, while fully acknowledging that it is a part of many of our users lives, and simply want to facilitate that... So, things I would like to see are: 1. Ability to Promote to a Group in addition to a Page 2. Ability to auto-promote new content from specific parts of my site, to reduce the workload of moderators manually sharing (or promoting) content, and let them work in a "by exception" mode, similar to how they police the forums. 3. Ideally, I'd like to see the ability to automatically feed or pull back to my site any Facebook reactions or comments to content that has been shared or promoted there...
  3. We use Sharing to our corresponding Facebook.Group as a method of getting new members. It drives a lot of traffic to the site, and many then Sign Up for broader access. The last snapshot I took, 12% of our new traffic was coming from Facebook. That is why I was so disappointed not to be able to Promote to a Facebook Group....
  4. Good suggestion, so that one moderator action could accomplish two things.
  5. For #3, how about a setting where the Admin can set the default scope of the Quick Search? That would allow a bit.more tailoring for unique sites, without becoming overly complex. I like how it currently lets you change scope in Quick Search Otherwise, I am loving your thoughts about enhancements.
I used this as the foundation to migrate a custom registry application for antique garden tractors with about 1200 records. Though I did not use the.built in make/model structures used to import Garages data, having all the blocks, feeds, and GUI already created made this conversion far, far easier than developing a custom Pages application. Now I have an app that is being maintained and enhanced in the marketplace, such as adding the new v4.2.5 IPS features. My users love it, especially the ability to use the Mods function to document the build or restoration of a vehicle. Mike offers first rate support!
  6. Since my entire site is dedicated to a club, this terminology is confusing. We would like to use this new feature to implement Chapters. How/where can I make that change?
  7. After upgrading to v4.2.5 when I do FB share on my phone I am no longer given the option to select where within FB to share it (my home page, group, friend's page, etc.) It still works fine on a PC. Anyone else encountering this?
  8. No, I am not. I am talking about searching for short or hyphenated terms (model number) within the suite and in titles or tags on the items indexed or catalogued in the suite. Charles gave me the answer that I have been waiting a year on...
  9. Yay! I just upgraded to v4.2.5 a few days ago -- after waiting for the dust to settle on the ~25 plug-ins/apps I run, and hadn't seen this. I can now finally shut down my old site that I've kept live, yet locked, for a year waiting on this... THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! When will this be released, since it isn't in v4.2.5?
  10. PLEASE fix Search as promised. I have members now mobilized to upload thousands of PDF files to our Downloads section. But, if we can't search and find them by the short model numbers of the equipment involved (B-210, 3314, etc.) then they are of limited value. Finish up the new social promotion by allowing us to Promote to a FB Group instead of just a FB page. Finally, make the FB Share reliably pull an image from the body of a Topic being shared. It works fine in some parts of the suite, but not in the forums.
  11. Couple presales questions: 1. Can I use this to create different custom notifications for specific forums? I have a few forums that I would like to alert the Moderators that there is a new topic, so they can respond quickly. 2. I assume it also supports email notifications, but just want to confirm... Thanks!
  12. Is there an add on or plugin that will print only the main content area without sidebars, etc? Since some of my content is technical step-by-step guidance and some of my users prefer to use printed instructions.
  13. I haven't tried it, but wouldn't setting the visibility to Public and the Membership to Invitation Only get you close to what you are asking? THE Club Leader may get swamped with requests to join, but the joining would not be automatic. I am just beginning to experiment, since my entire site is focused on a Club (premium members) and we are evaluating the function to possibly support regional chapters within the larger club. I use content that is visible but the user cannot post as an enticement to get the registered user to pay dues (subscription) to gain the ability to past a reply or comment. Similarly I use content visible to unregistered users to entice them to register and begin interacting. So, I can see what he is trying to do.
  14. Also note that his Featured Content slider works well with Pages content. I am using it to pull images from an extensive database and display it on my index page.
  15. I use a News and Announcements forum that only Moderators and Admins can post new topics in. Every topic posted in that specific forum is worthy of promotion. I am not suggesting that anyone have the capability to "flood" Facebook or Twitter with every topic or reply posted -- and it seems that if IPS is concerned about that, that a "throttle" could be implemented in the promotion schedule... similar to "flood control" on posting of topics.
  16. In a response to a Support Request, it was suggested that I provide my request here: 1. I would like to be able to promote content to either a Facebook Group or a Facebook Page -- not just to a Page. Our club (not to be confused with an IPS Club feature) has both a FB Page and FB Group. They are interlinked on Facebook, but the vast majority of the traffic is on the FB Group. Note that if I do a Facebook Share (instead of an IPS Promote) that I can select to share to either a page or a group. 2. I would like to be able to Auto Promote content from specific areas of my site. For example, I use a specific News and Announcement forum for just that purpose. I would like for all new topics in that Forum to be automatically promoted. I've also described other specific areas of my site that I would like to automatically promote, as descibed in @Joel R topic here: Note that my response to the "intended to be curated" issue is: a. Let us, the Site Admins curate by selecting specific areas of our sites to auto promote (such as one of my approximate 15 forums). For example, only Moderators or Admins can post topics in that specific forum -- so it has already been "curated"... b. We could still curate all promotions coming from the automatically promoted content by deleting anything we didn't want to be promoted from the list of scheduled items. It could become "curate by exception" and dramatically reduce the human intervention or action needed.
  17. Could you let US decide what areas we would like to automatically promote, instead of requiring us to manually promote? That "curation" is a factor of what we choose to promote... Exactly....
  18. Being able to automatically Promote content from specific areas or forums would be incredibly valuable. For example, most forums use some kind of a News & Announcements forum. Automatically promoting new topics from that specific forum (not all the forums) would be incredibly valuable.
  19. Have you considered an Auto Promote function/feature? I would like to automatically promote the following bits of content: 1. A new topic in a specific forum (out of about 15 forums total) 2. A new Photo Gallery album created 3. A new Blog entry in a specific blog 4. A new classified item added in the Classifieds System (InvisionHQ, previously Adriano Faria)
  20. On a related issue. I've found v4.2 to be much better in picking a better image from Pages, Gallery, etc. to use on a FB share. But, mine still does not use an image from a forum topic in the share. This was widely discussed in v4.1 with no clear work around. Did v4.2 do anything to improve that?
  21. Having waited for all the add-ons and plug-ins to stabilize, I have just upgraded my site to v4.2.5 I'm trying to schedule and set up the Promote functionality. but I am not being shown the option to promote to my club's Facebook Group, only the club's Facebook Page in the dropdown selection (We have both a Facebook page and a group). How do I change that?
  22. I could not agree more!!! For those of us who run sites that are not largely just chit-chat, search is THE biggest differentiator from Facebook groups. They are absolutely essential. My complaints with the MySQL search are on record and documented here - and verified in side-by-side comparisons with MSSQL search.
