  1. On twitter there's a basic search shortcut where you can do @USERNAME SEARCHTERM and it will bring up tweets from or two the username with the searchterm Can this get bought into Invision?
  2. Same. I've got 5 of them all with similar names and it was always a bit of a hassle/pain to figure out which was which.
  3. Ok. Wasn't sure if it was a bug or not, I did a search for notifications here first but didn't get anything back.
  4. So I finally updated the site on the weekend, seems to have gone well except the notifications are broke. There seems to be no rhyme or reason as to how a notification gets set as read or unread. In particular I seem to get loads of notifications now that pop up already as unread. What's going on? Fix?

If by bookshelf I can take it to mean "all over my desk and in various cupboards.. then a few networking books, some generic sci-fi books, various arthur c clarke books including his collected short stories, the aubrey-maturin series and some philosophy books (the republic, st augustine, meditations).

If you've restricted parts of your forum with a minimum content count, that restriction may have been automatically set (or you may have set it inadvertently) to block people who aren't above that minimum count from being able to view the forum. This will block them from viewing the forum regardless of if their specific group is meant to be able to view it and all the permissions are set. There's also a similar setting under "posting requirements" on the "posting settings" tab of each forum's settings. If you remove that restriction it should fix the problem. You should double check by logging in as a new test user that has been given that member group. (I know this is a bit late but I had a similar problem and figured I might add in how I fixed it, if this was the problem).
  8. My admin group is set to unrestricted. I've never had any other moderator function locked out like this before :S
  9. Invision should introduce a setting that limits guest IP's (or any IP tbh) to a maximum of 3 or 4 "guest" users at one time.
  10. Hi, I wanted to split off some posts into an existing topic, after selecting the posts to move over to the new thread, it would tell me "You do not have permission to moderate that topic". Obviously as the admin, I should have permission to do whatever I want. Anyone else run into this issue? I'm not even sure how to even try fixing it.
  11. Ah, looks like an adblocker filter was causing it, I believe because it's element appears to be labelled "share" and one of the lists that gets rid of social media stuff blocked it. Thanks all.

  13. There's one thing I've noticed on Invision it lacks that many other forum do have, which is when you view a post that includes quote, there's button to go to the original quoted post. Is this an option or just non-existent?
  14. I know the regular filenames don't change, I have a database that is regularly edited, that is also used to create a forum thread. Instead of thumbnails, could you instead use HTML to show a smaller version of the regular file? eg: <img src="smiley.gif" alt="Smiley face" height="42" width="42"> Although this would assume you are using the same aspect ratio for all your images. So that might not work. But you might be able to code it individually per database entry. An alternative would be for the person who creates the database, to stop using URL's and instead upload it's own specific version of the image to separate the two databases entirely (so you aren't linking URL's from another database). At least in that case, when you make the "thumbnail" you can just upload an edited version of the image with the appropriate sizing.
  15. I had the exact same problem, and on my main browser (Chrome) I couldn't get back to the upgrade screen. I had to open up another browser (Opera) and log in again and it went through.
  16. Are you getting your page views from Adsense site? One thing I've noticed is that the rise in mobile viewing has made the old style ads less valuable. Make sure you setup a mobile capable Responsive ad to help counter-act that. I'd suggest just using the internal IPS advertisement sections. Responsive Ads are a bit of a pain to setup check out these two threads: I would setup a basic adsense as: Firstly - I setup a special premium member group, so that you can offer a membership for a certain timeframe, give people bonuses like more signature room, ability to have signature images, more pm space, no ads at all, a special sub-forum for donators. Global Leaderboard (Responsive) - 728 x 90 maximum, responsive so it works even on small mobile devices. Show to everyone who isn't an Administrator or a Premium member. Forum View After First Topic - 728 x 90 Guests & New Members Topic View Under First Post - 728 x 90 Guests & New Members Global Footer - 728 x 90 Everyone not Admin/Premium Sidebar - 300 x 250 Everyone not Admin/Premium Lower Sidebar (custom location) - 300 x 250 - Guests & New Members The majority of income will come from the Leaderboard & the Sidebar, but you can make another 25% with the others.
  17. If you cultivate a forum with constructive, and in-depth discussion your can survive. And honestly, if someone isn't giving those things do you really want them on your forum? Facebook is awful for discussion, it's just one liners & meme spam, I think I've blocked like 500 sites who do nothing but spam a picture of peoples names with some "oh so random" attribute "people named this are totally bad at sex" or "top 20 guys who go out on the piss". Just dreadful. The only reason I even have it is to post about stuff for my site on facebook and maybe bring people over but I'm hardly sure it's worth it.

  19. Last couple of days I haven't been able to embed things like twitter or facebook. I just get an error saying: The link could not be embedded because of an unexpected error: Internal Server Error: "Incorrect key file for table core_cache.MYI'; try to repair it". Anyone got any ideas?
  20. If you aren't aware, the "Scunthorpe" problem is an issue that computers using word filters have with certain legitimate words, that get blocked. Scunthorpe is a location in England, but it also contains a (for most parts of the world that aren't Australia and some of England) a highly offensive swearword. Invision has a word filter. Now my issue isn't specifically with Scunthorpe, but it is football related. As you can see from the signature my website is based around a football team. One of the opposition players has the last name "Nigro". Which for certain countries (mostly Spain & Italy) it is often just what the actual colour black is called. As you can figure, this often gets picked up by word filters. For good reason. Now, my issue is that Invision doesn't appear to have a "whitelist" (ironic considering the entomology of the players name) that you can specifically allow certain phrases. Only a blocklist. Am I missing an option for this? Could it be added to the software?
