4.5: Page Builder Widgets

Invision Community introduced drag and drop widgets many years ago. These widgets allowed anyone to add blocks to existing views, and to build up entirely new pages.

These widgets were great for quickly adding content to a page, but they weren't incredibly customizable.

For Invision Community 4.5, we've added three new Page Builder widgets which allow you a little more control.

For an overview of this new feature, please take a look at the video below.

As you can see, these new widgets offer a lot of customization without the need to code any CSS or HTML. You can add background colours and images, adjust padding and borders and even add colour overlays right from the widget menu.

Blandness be gone! Now you can let your creativity loose on your pages and all other views that have the drag and drop zones.

I'd love to know what you think of this new feature; please let me know below!

That's fantastic. Only wish there  was a way to do edits to settings and have some live preview with out having to go all the way out all the way back in each time.

Perhaps some button that will take you back into  to the last used block setting.

Any way to create a menu to go in the side of these pages. I have alot of pages but its hard to navigate through them without going to the main menu dropdown. This is ok on desktop but on mobile its not user friendly

Nice video, nice feature! This is a really good start towards bringing Pages into the inevitable realms of being a proper Divi style page/site builder!

It would be really nice to extend this functionality to members who are Blog owners, enabling them to be able to add some much needed personalisation and individuality to their IPS Community Blogs.

Hey.

Nice work

Any facility to add classes or Id to the blocks?

And if so, a very cheap way to style multiple blocks at a time would be to create a new widget type called, for example, CSS editor, and in that add the style controls which are in the other blocks. This would enable us to, for example:

1/ add class X to each content block

2/ add CSS Editor block and allow CSS to target classes or ID. For example class X

3/ style class X using inline controls (per your demo), or using custom css.

Not necessary of course, but would make editing a page a lot quicker if you wanted consistency in terms of padding etc.

Also, whilst here, it would be good to be able to add Id or class names to widget containers, making it easier to set up flex container, flex direction etc for multiple widgets in a container.

Looking  forward to 4.5

edit: I appreciated you can already  add css styles to HTML editor blocks (assuming you have HTML edit perms)

🙂

This is awesome.

It would be nice to use this feature to pull from a pages database category. Having this kind of control over database blocks is what I've been waiting for, for years!

I've been running a news site, pulling the story image and having control over that image and title is the dream. That would give us 100 times more control over featureless marketplace solutions.

Could you please include a block that does this using the solution you're providing here. To me this is the most exciting update announced. pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaasssssssssssssseeeeeeeeeeeeee....

Regards

I stand and applaud the efforts of everyone that contributed to this massive improvement, this is getting closer and closer to having a complete and fully customizable visual page builder.

This reminds me of the Visual Composer/WPBakery days. Now it's Elementor all the way. Live preview would be nice for sure, but I'd opt for even MORE customizations over having live preview. Hopefully we will see more and more options added with each update after the release of 4.5!

A huge step in the right direction! I love the fact that the Forum App is very powerful, but the software needs more flexibility regarding content creation in general. More CMS features (since the Forum App is already great). 🙂

Back to the Page Builder Widgets: Maybe you want to add a WYSIWYG editor to the text area, which would make content creation a lot easier. And I hope those widgets can be displayed based on group permissions. Sadly you never clicked the visibility tab... Is that one for permissions?

If you have the pages app, you can create blocks and set the visibility in the ACP while creating a block.

Very good improvement, step in the right direction of course! Congrats!

However I did not understand if it will be possible to change the layout as we see fit? Take for example like WPBakery where you can set how you want it 1/2 + 1/2 or 1/3 + 1/3 + 1/3 and so on instead of being forced to have this 2/3 (main center area) + 1/3 (sidebar).

As I mentioned other day, would be nice to be able to personalise a side menu like this in downloads https://invisioncommunity.com/files/ without the numbers, to navigate pages easier. But if html can be used maybe theres a way it could be done.
