I'm terrible at this kind of thing and it makes me nervous as heck to do it since it's an old/large forum with many posts and pages.

Since I'm cloud hosted, is it possible to have someone from the Invision crew perform the upgrade safely?

I'll be ready to do it in a month or so and would be choosing the Creator Plus tier monthly.

If I must perform the upgrade myself, could I get a link to the procedure? I could not find one in the blog.

Also, is it true that I'll no longer be able to edit my Pages without losing the HTML?

Sorry, we won't be able to do the upgrade for you, but it is simply pushing a few buttons, and the platform handles the rest.

The procedure is:

  1. Go to your Client Area -> Manage Purchases -> click your package -> Upgrade to version 5.

  2. The system may take a few minutes to apply files.

  3. Go to {your-base-url}/admin/upgrade

  4. Click start upgrade and watch it process :)

If you run into any issues, please submit a ticket and we'll be happy to help!

There is no more HTML editing in content pieces so you will not be able to edit the content itself. However, you will still be able to edit html in templates.

Not sure I follow. I have pages with tables that need to be updated periodically.

If that is in the content (aka the pages database record) you will not be able to edit it via HTML as the editor does not include the ability to edit HTML. If you have Pages templates, eg the structure of how things are displayed around your content, you can edit that as that is done in phtml.

Will existing pages break? I'm talking about pages made here: admin/?app=cms&module=pages&controller=pages

Wait, does this mean the URLs are going to change too? like instead of mypage.html it's going to have to be mypage.phtml?

😬

Sorry for so many questions, this is important to me, as for better or worse, my site is my livelihood.

Will I still be able to use html in custom blocks?

Pages are separate from Pages Databases. Unless you used the WYSIWYG editor.

URLs will not change.

You will need to use the HTML block. Not the editor block.

Pardon my ignorance, I'm confused, please be patient.

When I hover over the double page icon and click on Pages, I have the option to create a page, I plop my html in there and save. I don't know what you mean by Pages Databases.

Under that same double page icon, I have the option for Blocks, when I click that I am able to create and edit Blocks using html.

Will these Pages and Block now be un-editable or broken?

Also, the old plans had storage and user limits.

What are the limits on new plans? (didn't see any mention of storage or user limits in the pricing area)

If you have selected to create pages or blocks using html, you will still be able to do so. If you have created anything where you click "Source" in the editor, then thats the item that has changed.

If you take a look here, this shows which options contain which limits. Scroll to the bottom as there is a table there with those items you mention

What about the timing of the upgrade?

I'm still on 4.7.25 and the bill for this month just went through. If I were to upgrade today, would the payment I just made be prorated into the new bill or would that money be lost?

  • Author

I noticed Page Builder is no longer listed in the features for the Creator plan, no mention of pages there at all. Has it been removed?

Upgrade costs are pro-rated

No. Its present. If you look further down the page, there is a table with all what is included

Poking around the admin looking for the upgrade option.

Doesn't seem to be on the support page, it says I'm up to date:

Clicking more info just shows things depricated.

The upgrade to v5 from v4 is initiated through the client area. Once on v5, upgrades will work via the Admin CP again.
