We’d like to use the topic suggestion feature in 5.0.20, but it requires an Opensearch server. We’re on cloud. How do we set this up?

When posting this, a similar topic was suggested, demonstrating the value of the feature. Well, almost. That request was never answered.

You would need an open search server available for you to use. Once you have one of those, you can add the details in System>Search, within your admin CP

That much is obvious. How does one set up a server?

Its an open search provider you are looking for. We dont recommend any specific ones, as long as they are open search. So you would be searching for companies that provide that service

Opensearch is available on AWS. IC cloud is on AWS. Could you set this up?

We closed our AWS service and moved to IC cloud because we wanted full support. We're a small nonprofit and have no one willing and able to maintain AWS. We have minimal traffic.

Enhanced search is available only in our enterprise plans at the present time

Can you suggest how we can use the topic suggestion feature? Could it be made available without Opensearch? Could you (or someone) give more useful info on how to set up Opensearch?

Keep in mind that while our software utilizes OpenSearch, support of the actual OpenSearch infrastructure is outside our scope of support. If this is not something you are comfortable doing you will either need the Enterprise plan (as Marc mentioned) or work with a managed OpenSearch provider. Once OpenSearch is setup, you can then follow the instructions and required information in the ACP to connect the two. If you have any questions not related to the infrastructure side of things, we'll be happy to answer.

Could the topic search feature be made usable without Opensearch?

"Usable" is a term that is extremely vague. Technically, it is broadly usable currently with MySQL search. If you're doing something specific and search is failing in something that it supports, I would detail that in a separate support topic. If it isn't something we support currently, I would put that in the Feature Suggestion forum. Keep in mind though, MySQL search is extremely limited and we're on the verge of what it can do.

The new topic suggestion feature introduced in 5.0.20 isn't working on our site, running MySQL. It does work on this site.

Is there a toggle to enable it? Does it only work with Opensearch?

Yes, I can read. Look at the first sentence in this thread.

I'm simply grasping for some way to access this feature.

What I'm reading here is that "MySQL search is extremely limited and we're on the verge of what it can do", but you won't provide Opensearch to any but the top level of cloud customers. Frustrating. You've promoted a useful new feature, but made it available to few customers. It's like waving a meaty bone in front of a dog and taking it away.

The way I see it is that Opensearch is like a third party integration you can add. It isn't included in the base software (except at Enterprise level).

You can enable it, but need your own Opensearch server to do so.

Consider it like adding the Google Maps integration, or Sendgrid, or Zapier, etc. The ability is there in the software, but you need to configure your own accounts and setup with those operators to be able to integrate them with your IC5 instance.

I think that's what the replies to you are saying. The feature is an additional thing you need to set up (and pay for where applicable) yourself to be able to integrate and use.

Well, yes, but not quite. It's not additional, but an alternative to MySQL. One or the other is required. We're told that MySQL is at its limits, but that's what we get.

That is incorrect. MySQL is the requirement. OpenSearch is an alternative integration for enhancements.

Since the radio buttons in Search in the CP let you choose either MySQL or Opensearch, I interpreted this to mean that one or the other is required. We both say it's an alternative. Rather a fine distinction.

Why would it not make sense to use Opensearch instead of MySQL for all cloud accounts? Please understand that this isn't a challenge, but just a question from an uninformed and curious user.

I guess really you could say that about any feature, is the honest answer there. We sell items at different levels as a business decision, as with any other business. At present, this isnt something available outside of our enterprise packages.

Opensearch is currently available for Enterprise customers. We may being it to Cloud plans, but it would be a purchasble extra given the uplift in costs we would face. We have some customers on Creator Plus would would require a sizeable Opensearch footprint.
