Hi Folks.

We are getting ready to update from v4 to v5 and we are on cloud. I spent the day going through all the custom built apps and plugins we are going to lose and reaching out to the developers about updates V5

Some questions:

1. How long does it take from when we request the update?

2. What version will we be updated to?

3. Does support have a backup in case we need to revert to v4

4. Does the backup include the custom apps and plugins?

1. The time for the platform to apply version 5 files to your system is relatively instant. You just need to keep watching /admin/upgrade for when you can run the upgrader.

2. The latest release. At time of writing this, that is 5.0.10.

3. Yes, we have automatic backups but typically, we can resolve any issues for you.

4. It is of the whole database.

One functionality we need is restricting private messages from certain groups to allowed groups.

1. Is this message restricted facility available on V5.

2. We have many groups with different permissions configurations for access to various calendars, forums and pages databases, I am presuming these will all update correctly.

3. Are there many changes to the adminCP side of things.

4. When adding blocks can we set permissions for which group see them and what pages they will show.

It’s getting exciting now.

The use of the messaging functionality can be restricted on a group basis, just like in version 4.

Yes. Permissions should updated without issue, like all other data in the software.

The UI has changed slightly and there are some variances in where settings are or have been removed but I wouldn't say it is an overwhelming amount. I would suggest having a look at a Free Trial if you want to see for yourself.

The block functionality is unchanged in version 5 compared to version 4 in this regard.

If you're interested in a staging site, please contact our sales team. I'm afraid, the trial is not something we would do that for.

I'm busy preparing our board for the update now. I am presuming that all of our attachments on forums and records, and photo's in galleries will all be intact after the update.

I am also assuming that all data that is part of a 3rd party custom app or plugin will all be deleted.

All will be intact. As fas as 3rd party goes, it will most likely break. So you’d need to update to the v5 version if there is one. Most if not all, data will remain.

Yes, the core applications, all data will be upgraded fine. There are things which have been removed in version 5 but I believe that remains in the database for the time being, i.e. physical products.

Third party applications/plugins will break but the data can remain so long as you don't uninstall the addon.

@Jim M, Ok, it is done, we are on IPS 5 now, and I'm setting it all up the way we want it.

We use a lot of pages for various courses and also some online books.

I usually used the 'source' section in the old CKEditor and pasted in HTML, and this had many advantages, like linked tables of contents.

I can't find how to do this with this editor. Is there a way to add to it, like with the CKEditor? Which I customised to add TOCs when I wanted?

Source mode has been removed in version 5 as the new editor does not support it.

There is a 3rd party html application that may be of use:

I’m not familiar with it, so I don’t know if it will work with pages.

It works well in the forum, but when I copy the forum post over to a database, it loses its anchors, so the TOC doesn't work. I have messaged the maker. Thanks

I can create an HTML page and link it to a database category setup, no problem. There is always a workaround...

@Marc Is it possible for us to install extras on the editor line this one? Or do you have to do it server side?
