Invision Community 4: SEO, prepare for v5 and dormant account notifications By Matt Monday at 02:04 PM
Bigboard Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) Hello, The available GeoIP integration is a very good idea. However, in practice it causes more confusion instead of helping with security, because the location detection is highly inaccurate. I looked this up and it seems the integration uses an API on IPS infrastructure, which in turn polls the free version of the MaxMind databse (GeoLite2). Is there any way to switch the GeoIP integration to our own Maxmind subscription? We already have a GeoIP2 City Database subscription and we'd like to use it. Thanks! Marc Posted November 7, 2023 Posted November 7, 2023 I have moved this to our feedback forum for you. There is no way in which to do so at present Bigboard 1
Bigboard Posted November 7, 2023 Author Posted November 7, 2023 (edited) That is unfortunate. We'll have to disable the feature completely. Thank you for the assistance. Hopefully this will be taken into consideration, as it shouldn't be very complicated to do (basically instead of polling the IPS remote API, simply read the $_SERVER variables set by the maxminddb server module). Meanwhile, we could attempt to develop this ourselves, as an alternate integration. Is it possible to develop 3rd party integrations without breaking anthing?
