Can I/How do I set default visibility for Forums categories?

Hello,

I was wondering if it's possible, and if so how to set a Forums category's default visibility (e.g., collapsed or expanded).

So for example if I wanted my Forums splash page to have forums visible for a General Discussion category, but to have other, more specialized categories collapsed (ghosted out) by default in order to conserve space on the splash page...would that be possible?
