Future Publish Articles

Featured Replies

It used to be that when you created an article and have it set so that it also published as a thread to a specific forum, the thread would not be created, and thusly posted, until the article actually posted. At some point along the way in the last seven months, there was apparently a change that creates the thread in that specified sub, at that point in time when the article is created for a future publish. This then takes up unnecessary space at the top of the sub.

I am not sure I understand the reasoning behind this alteration. What was wrong with the old way of doing it? It was unobtrusive, and now it is just plain cumbersome.

Its very likely this was when we added the ability to schedule topics too. There isnt anything really not working there. Its actually just scheduled both for the same date, which would indeed be correct. Nobody can see these other than the people who should be able to

I don't believe that to be the case Marc. I use the Future Publish of articles on a seasonal nature. Last season, Articles created, utilizing the publish a thread to X form aspect, would not post a thread in the specified sub until the Article actually published.

I have implemented a workaround but that doesn't change the fact that it used to be a certain way that was unobtrusive and is now cumbersome. Of which has created extra work to alleviate the cumbersome condition.

Im not sure what it is you dont believe to be the case there? What Im saying, is it wasn't possible before, which is why you wouldn't have seen them present. You do now, but that is correct. It works in the same way as the article itself.

Okay, lets see if I can delineate a little better here for clarity.

Previously, I could create an Article, set to future publish at some point in the future. I would also set it to post the Article as a thread in a sub forum of my choosing. Previously, the thread that was created would not be created until said Article actually reached it's publishing date. Now however, the moment you create the Article (set to a future publishing date), and save it, the thread is created at that point, not the future date the Article is actually published.

Hopefully this explanation is a bit clearer than mud.

The only change we made in 5.0.20 related to topic sync is to create a topic if an article is moved from a category that has forum topics disabled, to one that has them enabled.

If an article has a future publishing date, the topic will too. That hasn't changed.

Thank you, Stuart.

I am not sure what is happening then, because future publish article, threads are publishing, as stated above, at the point when the Article is saved.

With that said, I know the next bit of advice will be to make sure I am running the latest greatest. There are several reasons why I won't do that at this point, of which the most important is that, I never ever upgrade during the season.

However, from the sounds of what you are saying, this condition has not changed and should be working as you describe in 4.19.0. If anyone cares to have a look, I can show.

Thank you again.

I use future publishing a lot here for our news blogs, and it doesn't create the topic until it's published. My latest blog was originally created last night, and published around 1:15pm today. The topic was only created once it was posted.

It may be that I have left out a piece of information, my apologies. Let me try to explain a bit further.

With my installation, as stated above by me, the topic is created as soon as the future publish article is saved. I did leave out the part that, while the Thread is created at that moment, it is hidden until the Article publishes and then the Thread also publishes at that time.

Prior to this new season, last time I used the Article future publish, the thread would not be created at all until the Article actually publishes. And just to make sure I am being clear here, now, the Thread being created, while hidden, posts to the top of said sub. Hence my comment that it is cumbersome.

It must be something to do with my installation. Not sure but perhaps an app is causing it. If so, that is on me.
