Feature Request: Requiring Prefixes When Making Threads

Featured Replies

Hi Team,

Incredible work with Invision 5.0. I am super impressed with everything y'all have done and cannot wait for my forum to move from self-hosted to the Cloud platform. In the past, my forum used the plugin Radical Tags for organization and color coordination on the forum. Obviously that plugin in DOA, and with Invision including its own internal tagging system, things could be a lot easier. My only concern is right now tagging prefixes are optional. It would be nice if we could turn on an option to require a prefix to be selected before a thread is made. And possibly be able to change their colors.

Once again, thank you so much. I hope this can be taken into consideration for a future release.

Hi @OhSoRy This might be exactly what you seek:

https://administrata.net/software/item/55-topic-prefixes/

It is a standalone system - it is not an extension of Invision's prefix system. Although I have not made use of this myself - if you need clarification, contact the developer - there is an import Invision tags to Topic Prefix app prefixes tool.

  • The app allows you to color prefixes

  • You can force selection of a prefix per forum

  • You can assign each prefix to selected forums

  • Users can filter per prefix per forum, aiding discoverability

  • If you wish to merge topics from two more forums at an established community, you can use Invision's moderation checkboxes system to assign prefixes en masse (well, one page at a time) to the topics of each forum before merger with the topics of the other forums.

    • This means that you do not need to manually add prefixes to old topics on a topic-by-topic basis at the original forum or (worse) at the merged forum.

    • The same checkbox system can be used to move/merge topics with a specific tag en masse.

    • And if all moved topics are pre-tagged with a prefix, you can potentially reverse your decision if you find that the forum merger was not the best move, or if a forum outgrows itself and you need to subdivide the content into two or more forums.

I have been testing the app for the past few days and I've been impressed with the possibilities. We will be rolling out prefixes soon in a large community reorganization (only made possible by this app).

The app works great and I cannot recommend it enough! No, I am not on a commission. 🙂

Yup, this was created for me and I use it on one of my sites.

You'll find that the abilities to assign prefixes via the moderation checkbox system, and move selected topics according to their prefix (again, via checkbox selection) are new. 😉

@tymcio @Gary

Thought I should tag you both since you 'liked' the opening post.

The app I referenced will probably provide you with what you seek from prefixes.

I liked the post for the positive feedback given to v5 but thank you for the link though. 😊

Thank you so much for this. I apologize for not replying sooner, I've been been busy with grad school. I'm gonna look this overwith my team today.
