I was looking to add some video to my courses.

If I add video as an attachment, I don’t see a way of limiting video uploads to a specific group, so it will be open to all members. Also I don’t think access to the video is protected in any way? Maybe if it is hosted in an S3 bucket?

As an alternative I did wonder about using the Pages Media upload in admin. I could then embed maybe Pages Media in the courses? Trouble is, I don’t see a way of inserting Pages media directly and the new editor doesn’t seem to allow inserting images from a url.

I could upload to the gallery and insert from there, but if I only want videos to be accessed within the course, can that work? Placing videos in a hidden gallery, the video would still be available to be viewed by course students? Do the gallery permissions have any effect if an image/video is viewed outside of the gallery?

Are there other options?

As an alternative, have you thought of maybe uploading it to youtube? It would save you space, it automatically embeds, and you could set it so you can only get to it if you know the link, rather than having it public on youtube

That had been my plan originally, but I thought doing something in-platform would have been possible. Sounds like using YouTube will be simpler. Thanks Marc.

It would certainly be the route I would take. Youtube is built specifically for it, and it means you dont take space on your own instance :)
