adding an icon for a Category type of section

Featured Replies

How do I add an icon for the Category section type? for Discussions, it's not an issue through the Forums settings in AdminCP.

The anchor pic was used for Discussion sections, but Category sections don't allow this? Where is the icon placeholder (blue) set?

The behaviour is a bit weird for this, as it depends on the subforums, it seems.

  • Top level category does not have the option to add an icon or graphics.

  • Second level category have option to upload an image.

In my forum I have the following:

  • Atlassian -> Category

    • Atlassian -> Category

      • Atlassian General -> Discussion

This shows the icon from Atlassian General for the Top and Secondary categories.
If I do not have an icon in the subforums, then it will show the placeholder in the top and secondary categories as well.

This suggests that the icons that show up in the top and secondary category forums are inherited from the first subforum that is not a category.

The icon is hard-coded as far as I know.

You should be able to change it using the CSS for it:

.fa-ips::before {
    content: var(--icon, "\f1c5");
}

The work around that I did, a kinda cheat:

I went into 'edit' on the category, and turned it into a 'discussion'. That allowed me to go into the customisation tab and upload a custom icon. Then I went back into the main tab, and turned it back into a category before saving.
