Adding new tags in version 5

Hello,

I am testing a couple of things on version 5 at a friend's installation and I can't see how I can add new tags in the front-end. I don't understand, why can't I write any tags in the topics I want, I am only given the option to select existing tags. It doesn't make sense. Has the tag system been changed? If so, it's like going backwards.

Why can't I write the tags I want manually in a topic in the front-end?

In version 4, I have dozens, maybe 100 tags, and now there isn't even the possibility of adding them in the front-end and not even search for them to add them? What happens if I have added 100 tags (catagories, or however I want to call them. I click on choose tag and I don't see a way to filter tags either, or start writting a tag to query the tag's database and then select the one you want, it's just a dropdown option :( :( this doesn't make too much sense to those like me who used tags the way most did. The new system is better? Well, not for me at least. I can't even search the tags to select the one I want, I cannot type a tag, and there is no auto-complete, so this is not better for me, it's exactly the opposite.

In ACP, I can't see any setting that can help me use the tag the way I use it in 4.7, where I:

  1. Can enter any tag manually in the front-end

  2. Type and auto-complete tags

  3. There is no way to search a tag amongst dozens, or in my case many more. How can I select the tag I want in a list of +100 tags if there is no search and I cannot type manually? This is counter-intuitive.

What is the option for someone like with with +100 tags? Scroll down every single time I want to search for a tag? It doesn't make sense. It woud be a waste of time. I am using tags to positions topics in different lists, so I change/edit/add/remove the tags often. Doing it this way will make me waste so so so much time.

I am not using the tag system arbitrarily. I analyze the stock markets and there are dozens of sectors and industries in the US, and then several European countries. I have to select the sector and industry for each stock (each stock has its own topic). So how am I supposed to navigate through hundreds of tags if I cannot even search them or type them and see the auto-complete showing up matches? sad

Now in version 4.7, I type a and I can see the list of tags... in version 5, there is no such possibility so it renders the tag system usesless, cumbersome, slow, time-consuming, etc.

What can I do then to keep on using my tags? Don't tell me that I need to reorganize my tags, reduce them, etc, because they are fine the way they are.. I can't change the industries and the sectors in the US market or the European countries — each one is a tag that is used as a category to filter the topics.

Not only that, I am (the admin) the only one who can add/edit tags, so the tag system will not be ruined by others. Why can't the tag system be opened and the way it was before for admins? I don't understand why this movement backwards :(

Thanks

Take a look at the following, which shows how these now work

I've seen that video before I wrote this message, but you still haven't answered my questions on how I can use them.

That video doesn't help anyone, it only shows a person adding a tag to several places on the site, that's all. Not how to choose one tag from hundreds, or search the tag you want to add out from hundreds.

Sorry this didnt answer your questions. I can certainly answer these individually

  1. Can enter any tag manually in the front-end
You cannot do this on v5. Its a closed tag system. You can select only pre-defined tags, as shown in the link above

  2. Type and auto-complete tags
You can indeed do this. When you click "Choose tag(s)" there is a search item at the top of the list of predefined tags.

  3. There is no way to search a tag amongst dozens, or in my case many more. How can I select the tag I want in a list of +100 tags if there is no search and I cannot type manually? This is counter-intuitive.
    As above.

It would be worth reading through the responses here

What will happen when I move v4.7 to v5? Will all my tags in the open tag system respected and imported to v5 semalessly? Thanks

All your open tags will be converted to closed tags. You can also manage those in the admin CP (delete them, merge them etc) as needed
