Gallery 4 - A brief tour of the view image page

Late last week I left a teaser image of the 'view image'.

I have taken a short video to explain some of the larger changes and features of this page for Gallery 4.

I recommend clicking the full screen icon and ensuring the "HD" icon is blue to avoid excessive squinting.

This video will also give an indication for the direction of future IP.Board releases as we'll integrate "ajax" replies into 3.2 along with the new favorites system which I'll go into in more depth in a future blog entry.

Great Job! I love it so far will we have the notification system let you know when you get a favorite and comment on your image?

God I hope so :D

@Matt
I could have sworn I heard something about favorites for other applications...? Without getting too far ahead here, might this include marking posts (or at least topics) as favorites? :D :D :D

Also when doing the moderation, is that a regular click, double click or a right click?

The Previous and Next buttons should be more center below the title then on the side due to it looking like it align wrong. Also the buttons look a little boring. Maybe adding more like a graphic button the words would help it.

Our luck the competing forces will do everything in their power to snag you over to their side....
By the way did anybody hear about Hell freezing over?

Wolfie - Blogs, Gallery and Downloads have different 'favourite' systems which ultimately do the same thing.

You can also "watch" gallery albums, blogs, forums and topics which allow notification of events like new replies, etc. I thought it would be better to merge the two systems into a single centralized system that enables you to 'mark' and track items.

If I may suggest, it would be great if the IP.Gallery worked like deviantart....the images should dominate the module... IP.Gallery 4 doesn't seem to be such a great advantage over IP.Gallery 3. If you really want to make this module become something UP TO DATE, then you should look into making it similiar to deviantart.
This might sound as if I am suggesting you to rip off deviantart, but lets be realistic... its the largest and most popular gallery site on the web... they succeeded because they had the best user interface. I don't believe the changes you've done to IP.Gallery 4 will make a big difference in your sales. The "IMAGE" still fails to become the CENTER of the module, instead your "sidebar" takes too much place and contains some overkill stuff such as that "album preview showing all images in the album"...the sidebard should be smaller, much more like the deviantart one. The main part of the sidbear should definately be "DOWNLOAD IMAGE", and links for SHARING (they should be present in the sidebar not in the OPTIONS)... The "LOCATION" part of the sidebar is an utter failure... who cares about that? Nobody! Your gallery module is full of useless addons (I am not saying they shouldn't exsist, but they should definately NOT dominate the module, the image itself, as I already stated, should become the ceneter of the module), that makes it outdated, it lacks the MINIMALISTIC design and functionallity which is todays' most attractive feature...

Please take my comment as a friendly advice, I had no intentions in criticising your work for the sake of criticising.

Regards,
Nevensky

Errr...DeviantArt is most certainly not the largest and most popular gallery site on the web....I would wager a bet that Flickr beats it hand down (and if you aren't familiar with Flickr, it is definitely inspiring some of Matt's approaches to Gallery 4). I think if we're being fair here, it sounds like you particularly like DeviantArt specifically...but that doesn't mean that's the direction we want to take Gallery. Additionally, after having looked at their page, it's really not all that dissimilar to Gallery 4, ultimately. Their main image might be a touch larger, but that's about the only big difference - they still have a sidebar and comments under the image.

I only hear or stumble across deviantart periodically compared to photobucket, myspace, facebook, imageshack and sites running wordpress. When it comes to the news, facebook (used to be myspace) dominate the air time compared to almost all other sites. I've can only really recall one time when deviantart was in the news and that was related to the disappearance and then murder of Taylor Behl. I think there may have been a couple of other times it was mentioned, but I'm not entirely sure. Since both facebook and myspace support galleries and they've both been on the news more than deviantart, added in with the fact that they wouldn't have been in the news if it weren't for their popularity. Not saying that the news only reports on popular sites by any means, just that when something happens that ends up on the news, when something internet related is involved, it's more often going to be a popular site/service than not. Hence, the facebook and myspace stories on the national news about Betty White, Phoebe Prince, Megan Meier and numerous others.

Not trying to put down deviantart at all, just wanted to point out that it's not the most popular gallery site. It may seem like the most popular to you since you apparently use it, but that doesn't mean everyone else uses it too.

DeviantArt is a great site but its main purpose is to showcase illustration and art.

IP.Gallery's main purpose is to display photographs. Of course it can do media and what-not but I am streamlining it so you can upload a bunch of pictures quickly and view them without clutter or bother.

While no mention has been made of forum integration yet, I hope it's something simple and easy. While features are nice, there's a reason simple sites like imgur.com have become popular.

I guess everything is different now in 2014 as i don't see a place anywhere that someone can add what camera they used or even the location map.

I went to watch the video but this must be completely out of date is it?  http://vimeo.com/15359957
