IP.Subscriptions 1.0.0 Beta 3 Available

Updated: IP.Subscriptions 1.0.0 Beta 3 is available now!

We're pleased to announce that IP.Subscriptions 1.0.0 Beta is available for download from your client center.

This is the second beta release of the subscriptions manager that is compatible with IP.Board 3.0. Many long standing bugs and issues have been fixed in this release including:

  • Recurring subscription cancelation immediately ending subscription and demotes member
  • Multiple currency issues
  • Inaccurate reporting of totals
  • Incorrect end date calculation after upgrading
  • ...and many more

As always, please do be aware that this is a beta product and should not be used in a live environment without testing first. Please also be aware that currently only the PayPal and Postal Method gateways work correctly. Other gateways will be converted over the next few weeks once the framework has been finalized.

A fairly big change is how multiple currencies are handled. From 1.0.0 Beta 2 onwards you will need to specify a currency for each subscription package. This is to ensure that the correct value is calculated for payment regardless of the current exchange rate. If you are upgrading from a previous release and have non USD subscription packages set up, please go via the ACP and edit these to select the correct currency code to use.

The following items are to follow in the next release:
  • Pre-installed hook to display current subscription settings (You are subscribed to package X which runs out in X days)
  • Force the user to cancel a current recurring subscription before upgrading to another
  • Ability to renew a subscription before it expires (ACP configurable).

Due to a bug since fixed in IP.Board 3.0.2, you'll need to ensure that the guest member group can view the board and that you do not enforce all guests to log in if you are testing with PayPal.

Please report any issues in the bug tracker as normal.

Can the BBS function provide subscriptions for members? There is existing a good relationship between members, they are likely to book some services or products for their friends for maintaining and increasing their relationship.

In addition, i think that subscription as a motivation methond should be encouraged. I suggest that subscriptions also should provide a discount for members. For example, when the subscription has overed one year, members will get another discount which is better than original discount, that will improve the loyalty of members.

If the registration page can add on subscription option, how about add another function which is AD or promoting function?

Every member has own number. I think that every member will get a special link. If there is a person who is invited by a member through this special link, and become the member of BBS. The member who invites others will get a point. When this special link invites 5 person successfully, the owner (member) of this special link will obtain one year free use right. And this encouragement will can be used again and again. However, we can decide the number of the special link invited, it can be 4 or 3 and 2, but not 1, lol. We always get ways to make members feel that the BBS is fresh and interesting. We can image that after members registered successfully, they can’t wait for telling this BBS to their friends, neighbors, classmates or net friends. That is a positive prospect.

That's all, i just give some plans of the whole project. I think that it is a great function, and i expect that it will come true.

Does the subscription system notify users if they are near expiration? Can this duration be modified? Can multiple alerts go out at different timeframes - 30 days=send email saying they have 30 days, 7 days=send email saying only one week left, 1 day=final notice email.

Maybe allow email and an announcement/pm.

Love the new release but have one suggestion that would make it perfect for us.... being able to have multiple payment times for each subscription.

We like to give our users discounts if they subscribe to a longer term contract.....
1 month for $10.00
6 months for $50.00
1 year for $100.00

as an example.... It would be nice if we didnt have to setup packages for each time frame (vbulletin allows you to set pricing like that for each subscription)

I am desperately waiting for this to be finished. I also hope that there would be option for 2 type of packages that can be group separately like membership fees vs advertisement packages ( I dont like that with my membership packages I have to have my banner packages) also would be nice that even a paying member can see packages & extend his/hers membership instead of them needing to expire to repurchase

This is definitely a must have. In addition I would like to see better management of the expired / paid subscriptions. in 2.x they all showed on a page with the oldest expired and then to additional pages to see the active. If a member's subscription expired it remains in the expired list and is not removed when the member renews. This needs to be fixed. I should be able to run a report that lists all members with active subscriptions and then they expire and those that have expired subscriptions.

My board has free access and paid and therefore I can have several members without subscriptions or expired subs. and still be a part of the community and therefore is the reason for wanting to see both.

A great full featured subscription manager is AMember.com would love to see the majority of it's functions ported over to ips's system.

I have one question for this Subscription Manager for 3.x of IP Board....

I curently run IPB 2.3.6 and the Subscription Manager is what keeps my Forum on-line.

I lease a dedicated server in Denmark and pay thorugh PayPal in Euros. So to keep track of the balance and not worry about currency exchanges, I hacked the SM in 2.3.6 so it only accepts payments in Euros and does not give an option to pay in other currencies to the Members.....and I only use PayPal to accept payments from the Membership in the SM...FYI.

I would like to know if I can disable any and all currencies that I do not want to receive payments in? I could not cut the list down to just one currency in 2.3.6.....I can only add to the list and not remove any of the default currencies on this.....thanks!

fyi - I have the same issue as JayX

Everything else seems to be working fine though..

[edit]
If you edit the payment gateway, in my case paypal, in there select GBP as the currency and it will then show up in the add package option.
[/edit]

[edit 2]
Actually that didn't work, it now says 2.75 GPB on the purchase subs instead of 5.00
[/edit 2]

@Matt, there is another reason I was thinking why it would be great to have seperate URLs for the subscription packages. If every package had it's own URL and thank you page, it would enable users to setup Google Analytics Goal tracking to measure sign ups which currently isn't possible :-)

I suspect it will be released before August 25th 2012. :( (lol. I don't know but this delay sucks. Really....really....sucks.)

@iBr - multiple subscriptions is complex as you'd need to tier member groups, etc. It's something that is requested a lot and we'll see what we can do for a later release.

I hope this is added, it's very important for alot sites these days, in my 2.3.x board I have membership upgrades and vendor upgrades, it's very important when a person needs both subs

I have RC1 on my 3.0.2 board.

The tab for subscriptions is shown.
Clicking it will take people to the subscription options (3 packages shown - same as before upgrade to ipb3)
hen an option is selected and they click next, they are taken to a page where no payment methods are shown (ie no paypal option/logo) yet they are asked to select a payment method which is impossible. If they just click next, they are asked to go back and select a payment method.... but none are shown.

In the admin I have selected paypal to be enabled...

If anyone knows why this is happening, or what a solution might be please let me know. My board is hurting badly from this lack of functionality right now.

Post a ticket and see if you get support. Don't use any RCs. Matt RC2 will come out this week or maybe next week, with the final "soon after." I don't know when exactly....still waiting...

Looking forward to being able to upgrade the entire board. The subscriptions manager is the most important part of the forum. It's been hard seeing the new board (3) and having to sit tight before I can upgrade it all without compromising the payment side of things.

I was on a host what basicly died, I lost my most recent sql backup due to a cluster problem on a host, say around 12 days work lost. However I do keep logs of who donated through the system ect.

I did notice though I cannot manually add transactions, Now I do not know of this is a CHMOD bug or not so I thought I will ask here first and see if anyone else had the problem and found a fix.

I'm having the same issues with Subscription Manager, it's not displaying any payment method.
Is there any solution to this yet? Invision refuse to help me unless I pay for support, which I refuse to pay if this is a problem that many users are having.
