Request: Add 'Timezone' to Spam Prevention

Featured Replies

Given the recent increase of spam registrations, it would be nice to have more flexibility in spam prevention and add the ability to block a 'TimeZone' and not just a 'Country'.

  • Blocking an entire Country is too heavy handed

  • 80% of recent spammers come from one single TimeZone - at least on our site

  • Since TimeZone is a field that do exist for each member, it should be possible to add that filter in Spam Prevention/ Geolocation settings

Thank you

PS: I would be curious to know from sites that see an increase of spam, what Timezone they see from these spammers

Using timezone may be very unreliable; it's a value fetched from a cookie and in no way secure. Once a spammer knows the software supports something like that, it would be trivial to spoof the timezone.

I can assure you 80% of of current spammers come from a single TimeZone . It's not 100%, but blocking 80% of them would be nice.

They do at present, but we dont check for it. The second we do, they would simply change it, and its very very easy to do.
